One Piece‘s Live Adaptation Budget is Higher Than The TV Show The Last of Us

According to the latest news from Netflixwoche, episodes of Netflix’s One Piece live-action series are set to be more expensive than the episodes of the HBO series The Last of Us. The per-episode budget for The Last of Us was $15 million, less than the live-action adaptation’s $17.27 million budget.

One Piece‘s live adaptation’s budget is the second largest per episode for a Netflix original TV show. It is only behind Stranger Things Season 4, where an episode costs $30 Million, and just ahead of both The Last of Us and Sandman, which cost $15 Million per episode, respectively.

The shows that exceed One Piece‘s budget (including Stranger Things at $30 million per episode) are The Pacific and House of the Dragon at $20 million per episode, WandaVision at $25 million per episode, and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power at $58 million per episode.

Why is One Piece Live Adaptation So Costly?

The Japanese manga series One Piece fans have eagerly awaited the live-action adaptation to hit Netflix. And now, the wait is almost over, as they will get to see Eiichiro Oda‘s creation today (released on Thursday, August 31st) on the streaming platform.

The show has a lot of heart. The sets and clothes are very lively, and the live-action cast amazingly exhibits a sense of found family.

The first season of the live adaptation is set to be eight episodes long — covers about the first 45 episodes of the anime. It cost around $144 million, more than the original anime spent over 20 years on TV. This was a big task, so it’s reasonable if they didn’t have much time or energy to reimagine things for live actors and sets.

The One Piece live adaptation is now available on Netflix.
