Netflix has had a renewed focus on the anime genre. they have been rolling out one epic anime series after another. Netflix has even managed to create a niche Netflix Original anime movie category. From Devilman Crybaby to Dorohedoro, there’s a lot in store for young and old anime lovers. And the streaming giant has announced they are going all in this time as well. Their upcoming slate of shows and movies is leaning heavily in favor of adding more anime to their library.
Everything from Kaijus to mecha on mecha action and horror, the Netflix Originals Anime list continues to grow in both quantity and quality.
Mobile Suit Gundam hathaway
The crown jewel in the upcoming slate is the new Gundam anime. Titled Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway, the anime will be acontinuation of the previous Gundam story arcs. After the events of Char’s Rebellion, Hathaway Noa now leads a group of skilled insurgents against the might of the Earth Federation. All of that changes when Hathaway meets a mysterious woman and his fate and destiny are altered for the better. The movie will soon be complemented with a live action Gundam Film under development by Director Jordan Vogt-Roberts.
Shaman King
Shaman King is a beloved anime every fan of the genre would be familiar with. the premise is pretty simple. Mysterious beings called Shamans use their powers to defeat each other and become the Shaman King. The show is known for its flamboyant action scenes and riveting storyline. The anime will hit Netflix on the 9th of August. There are high expectations riding on the show’s shoulders.
Edens Zero
Many have started comparing this anime to the hit shonen anime and manga series – Fairy Tail. But the anime actually falls into a different genre. It belongs to the science fiction category as opposed to the magic and fantasy genre of Fairy Tail. the characters do look similar but it is a completely different story line. The anime will start streaming on Netflix on August 26.
Exception
The only thing we know about this anime is that it will fall into the horror genre. Expect a lot of jump scares and scaredy-cat moments. The series has not dropped a trailer yet. Final Fantasy artist Yoshitaka Amano will be a part of the project so expect a lot of big things to come from this anime venture.
Bright: Samurai Soul
No premiere date announcement has bene done for this movie. There’s no trailer either. But what we do have is a beautiful image depicting the animation style the movie would follow. And it looks gorgeous. The movie will be basically the same as Will Smith’s Bright but set in Medieval Japan.
Make My Day
Netflix has also announced an anime adaptation called Make My Day. from the looks of it, it will sound like the most terrifying tropes of horror classics rolled into a single project. The story looks promising:
“On a cold planet of ice and snow, mysterious creatures suddenly have appeared from the dark underground and have begun to attack the inhabitants.”
Godzilla: Singular Point
Godzilla: Singular Point debuted in Japan earlier this year. It will hit Netflix’s global library in a short while. You can start streaming the anime series based on the Kaiju monster starting June 29th.
