Pierce Brosnan’s last James Bond film Die Another Day

Pierce Brosnan played the role of the spy James Bond from the 1990s to the 2000s. He was one of the most acclaimed actors to be cast for 007. The fans of the actor wanted to see him take on the role a fifth time after the film Die Another Day in 2002. The film eventually ended the actor’s career as the world-famous fictional super spy.

Die Another Day is a Bond film that was not received well by the audience, maybe because of bizarre content, like an invisible car, a Madonna cameo, Bond surfing a title wave, and more. There were some appreciable aspects as well, like Halle Berry’s performance as Bond girl Jinx. But the movie was not the best Bond story, though it managed to take home a profit of $289 Million. However, the gross profit of the film was not enough to retain the lead actor in the titular role.

As per reports, Brosnan wanted a hike in his salary, but the Bond series producers were not willing to pay that amount to make him return for the role.

He said,

“I sat in Richard Harris’s house in the Bahamas, and Barbara and Michael were on the line —‘We’re so sorry.’ She was crying, Michael was stoic and he said, ‘You were a great James Bond. Thank you very much,’ and I said, ‘Thank you very much. Goodbye.’ That was it. I was utterly shocked and just kicked to the curb with the way it went down.”

Pierce Brosnan’s last 007 movie, Die Another Day, grossed over $431 million.

The Bond franchise returned after a hiatus of a few years, with the film Casino Royale, starring Daniel Craig as the new 007.
