Navigating through Meryl Streep’s filmography, one might even consider her an art film actress, but never an action star. However, interestingly, venturing into Hollywood, way ahead of Tom Cruise’s inception, even Streep tried her hands on action and performed her stunts in one of her films.
Appearing in the 1994 film The River Wild, Meryl Streep desired to be reckless and try out her stunts. Being a part of the adventurous movie, that was about a family rafting holiday, Streep tried to perform the exhausting task of river rafting on her own but ended up failing dangerously.
Meryl Streep Tried Her Own Stunts In The River Wild
Having a long and successful career as a Hollywood actress, Meryl Streep not only holds acclaimed projects under her belt but also possesses numerous accolades. Known for her versatility and ability to bring depth and emotion to her performances, Streep is often seen doing drama and biographies.
However, surprisingly during the mid-90s, the actress appeared in a renowned adventure movie, The River Wild (1994). Maybe the experience she had while filming is what drove her towards dramas and art films, for certainly it wasn’t splendid. During an interview with Orlando Sentinel, the actress confessed to doing her own stunts in the 1994 film.
Trying to be brave or rather reckless, Meryl Streep mentioned how she decided to do some of her own stunts during an exhausting day while filming The River Wild. Confessing to have gone against the director, Curtis Hanson, Streep mentioned performing a stunt that looked relatively easy in the thriller movie. But, certainly, the stunt didn’t turn out to be the way she expected it to go.
Meryl Streep Had A Bizarre Concern After Failed Stunt
Confessing how her reckless decision while filming the adventure movie about a family rafting holiday, went totally off the course, Meryl Streep recalled her bizarre concerns while having her near-death experience. “The boat surfed down into the hole, rose, and flipped over. I went into the river.” Streep discussed the incident.
Getting into further details, the actress recalled, “sinking down to the bottom with this powerful and freezing water pulling me in deeper”. Sharing her terrifying experience with Orlando Sentinel, Streep later discussed the weird thoughts that were plaguing her mind about the aftermath of her possible demise.
“My first thought was that if I died my husband would come to the set with a machete.” Meryl Streep shared.
Recalling how her thoughts made her go numb even during the terrifying incident, Streep claimed, “I was really very quiet and not scared, which is not at all how I thought I’d react under these circumstances”. However, once she was rescued, the actress confessed to being very clear and making up her mind about never trying to perform her stunts.
