Many celebrities have endured a difficult path or at least walked the difficult terrain of their life, working hard to reach their goal. Marvel star Chris Pratt has endured the same fate but he was destined to be a movie star.
Pratt has forged his career into the giant action star he is today. However, before his lucky break into Hollywood, the actor used to serve food for the survival of his family. Being a waiter was not a job description he wanted in his resume, but the actor broke his sweat for his passion of becoming a star.
Chris Pratt’s Inspiring Journey
The hard time Chris Pratt faced in his days of struggle shaped the best of the actor. Recalling his past, the actor once told The Independent about his tough days, yet he never had a complaint. “It’s a pretty awesome place to be homeless,” Pratt told the outlet.
“It would be different if I lived on the streets of Chicago and ate garbage from a dumpster. We just drank and smoked weed and worked minimal hours, 15-20 hours per week, just enough to cover gas, food, and fishing supplies. You know, it was charming time.”
The Guardians of the Galaxy star was born in Virginia, Minnesota. His parents worked very hard to provide for their family, Pratt, and his two siblings. Recalling their financial struggle, the actor recalled his past while speaking to Claire Babineaux-Fontenot, CEO of Feeding America. “I grew up in a small town, we had 7,000 people in our town,” Pratt said.
“We had some economic hard times, and we had a food bank nearby and I’m not ashamed to say that there were moments when my family would need to eat from a food bank … There is help out there… and there’s nothing wrong with needing that help.”
Of course, those days are gone now but the memories are still vivid as the actor has seen the real struggle and has been on the ground for far too long. But his journey is definitely inspiring.
One Lucky Break Was All Chris Pratt Wanted
Pratt never let go of his dream, he cherished it close to his heart. Also, the actor had a keen interest in comic books. Speaking to The Independent, the 44-year-old revealed that he once won 300 dollars and spent all the money on comic books including a copy of Guardians of the Galaxy. Later, around 2000, when he was a waiter serving food at Maui’s Bubba Gump Shrimp Company, the actor met with actor-director Rae Dawn Chong. He expressed his desire to be an actor and Pratt was featured in Chong’s short film Cursed Part 3.
“Originally the dream was to pay my bills doing nothing other than acting. I got there, but the dream is constantly evolving. Then my dream was to do roles that are more than just the bad guy, or the douche. Then it was to do sidekick roles, then comedy.”
Pratt is a superstar now, “It’s like I’ve crossed over this line where I actually say no to stuff,” Pratt said of his stardom.
“I could never have fathomed that. Before I would have done commercials for herpes medication if you wanted me to. Gladly, just as long as I didn’t have to wait tables again.”
The Avengers star is currently married to Katherine Schwarzenegger, action god Arnold Schwarzenegger’s daughter, and enjoying the peak of his career.
Pratt will appear next in Mark Dindal’s comedy Garfield, slated for 24 May 2024 release. He will also appear in Russo Brothers’ Netflix sci-fi The Electric State.
