“My cut isn’t perfect. But it’s vastly better”: Suicide Squad Director David Ayer Confirms Ayer Cut Exists, Blasts WB for Not Releasing it Like Zack Snyder’s Justice League

After the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League, there have been more bizarre requests that have now turned into demands. Zack Snyder’s Justice League cut was extremely well received by the fans proving that DC essentially f*cked up the film with its editing. Once Snyder Cut turned out to be a success, DC fans began to push for David Ayer’s cut of Suicide Squad (2016).

When the film was released in 2016 it created waves among DC fans but failed to please the critics. To put it bluntly, the film did not perform as strongly as it was initially marketed. It however managed to garner $745 million in Box-Office collections worldwide. Despite a lukewarm critical response, the film had a sequel, followed by a threequel. 

David Ayer takes a dig at WB for ruining his film

After a tweet that criticized David Ayer’s film and subsequent cut, the director took to Twitter to defend himself. He acknowledged the presence of imperfections in his cut. He tweeted,

The director mentions the “Studio hack job” directly taking a jibe at DC. He however means the people who were in the franchise around 2016 and not Gunn and Safran. Rather, the co-heads at DCU are all about giving Ayer the right to showcase what he could not in 2016. David Ayer’s tweet confirms the release of Suicide Squad director’s cut soon enough. 

Fans rally to support David Ayer’s cut 

Fans support David Ayer to release his cut. It is, in fact, the fans who made it possible, other than David Ayer’s bullheaded decision, to release his cut. The film made a lot of money in 2016 which means it reached a lot of people, is it worth it to again release something just because the edit was not perfect? Fans answer in the affirmative.

The only reason Ayer is pushing so hard it seems is to reiterate his film’s superiority over the studio’s quality. It is not wrong though, as studio productions are often like an assembly line production where the author’s rather the director’s imprint can no longer be found. The film is reflective of the studio and not the director or the writer who wrote it. Ayer probably wants to undo that and ensure that Suicide Squad retains his imprint as an artist.
