Will Smith is an extremely dedicated actor, known for his ability to masterfully portray a wide range of roles. The star even underwent extreme weight transformations to better look like his characters. Despite garnering huge praise for his weight transformations, the actor drew a lot of flak when he supposedly gained a lot of weight after his film Aladdin.
From Ali to the sci-fi movie I, Robot, he has been praised for his willingness to physically immerse himself in his roles. So it came as a surprise when he gained a drastic weight gain.
Will Smith’s Surprising Drastic Weight Gain
Jada Pinkett Smith‘s now off-air show, Red Table Talks has been instrumental for the family to come forward and reveal some of the most surprising, shocking, and intimate details of the Smith family. In an episode aired in 2019, Will Smith came up to talk about his drastic weight gain after finishing Disney’s live-action Aladdin.
The reason for his drastic weight gain was his diet of muffins and vodka as he revealed on the famous talk show.
“So for breakfast, I was having the four or five muffin. You know, Aladdin was successful, so I was like muffin, muffin, muffin. Then for lunch, I would have a Moscow mule, I’d have a little vodka. That was pretty much my routine for the 10 days. I’d wake up, eat five muffins and go back to sleep.”
Smith, who played the Genie in the film, was blown away by the film’s success and was too much in a celebratory mood. Just as the film wrapped up, Will Smith gained a lot of weight and eventually ended up weighing over 225 pounds, the most he has ever weighed.
“I had gotten up to 225 pounds and it was the most I’d ever weighed in my adult life. I got to 223 on ‘Ali’ and I got to 225 on the muffin boat.”
And it ended up with his family calling him a ‘pudge muffin‘.
Will Smith Lost Weight As He Didn’t Want To Be Called A Pudge Muffin
Will Smith’s drastic weight gain led his family to call him a pudge muffin due to his extreme diet of muffins. Not wanting to be called a pudge muffin anymore and wanting to be a better example to his family, Smith was all prepared to lose the extra weight.
“So I’m going to fast for 10 days. I did it and I got to about four days and I’m [mimes passing out] because I was still taking my blood pressure medicine. So I started taking my blood pressure medicine and my blood pressure was almost way dangerously low.”
While his diet was too dangerous and should not be followed by anyone without medical assistance, his efforts worked and felt the best he had ever felt. He then admitted his drastic diet made him realize the cruel relationship he had with food and now that he is aware of it, Smith tends to have a more balanced intake.
