Let’s face it: not every terrific movie is for everyone. A genius movie sometimes needs a good intellect to enjoy it. People are sometimes too indolent to appreciate a masterpiece. Take, for example, art. When one person looks at a Picasso doodle, all they perceive are the scribbles. However, someone else may come along and see it for what it truly is: a masterpiece.
To be blunt, some genius movies are made for smart people. And that’s OK. The rest of the world continues to enjoy CGI blockbusters such as Transformers, Fast & Furious, and the Twilight series.

5. The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, directed by Michel Gondry and written by Charlie Kaufman, is a strange but clever and fascinating film.
Clementine (Kate Winslet) undertakes surgery to wipe memories of her previous boyfriend Joel (Jim Carrey) from her memory after a terrible split. When Joel realizes that Clementine is going to great lengths to forget their relationship, he goes through the same process and gradually begins to forget the woman he loved.
4. Predestination
Predestination is quite likely the most genius film you’ll ever witness.
A temporal agent (Ethan Hawke) undertakes a final time-traveling mission to prevent an elusive criminal from carrying out mass murder. It’s the kind of picture that will leave you in a state of shock and dread, but also scratching your mind long after the titles have rolled.
3. Under The Skin
At least half of the folks I know who have seen Under The Skin don’t understand it. Its unsettling meaning is hidden, but those prepared to go deeper will like it. Scarlett Johansson gives an enthralling performance. An alien (Scarlett Johansson) disguises herself as a human girl and travels throughout Scotland, attempting to get unsuspecting males into her van.
2. Ex Machina
Ex Machina is a sleek intellectual psycho-techno sci-fi thriller with enormous thrills and big ideas. When you think about it, it’s very much a modern-day Frankenstein narrative.
Caleb Smith (Domhnall Gleeson), a programmer for a large Internet company, wins the sweepstakes to spend a week at the private house of Nathan Bateman (Oscar Isaac), the brilliant CEO of his company.
Caleb discovers upon his arrival that he has been chosen to be the human component in a Turing test to assess Ava’s (Alicia Vikander), a gorgeous robot’s, skills and consciousness.
However, it quickly becomes clear that Ava is considerably more self-aware and manipulative than either guy had anticipated.
1. Interstellar
Even though this list might have included any of Christopher Nolan’s films. They’re all incredibly clever movies: they’re all terrific and well-written.
However, Interstellar is most likely the picture that asks the most of its audience.
All of the space jargon, scientific ideas, poetry phrases, and temporal philosophies take more than just your average thinking.
