Henry Cavill and Stephen Amell have been two key players in the DC franchise with different paths but similar track records. For starters, Amell portrayed the role of DC’s Green Arrow in the CW television series while Cavill made the big splash on the silver screen as Superman in Man of Steel. Both actors pioneered their own universe within the franchise. Amell’s Arrowverse created by Greg Berlanti saw Green Arrow’s legacy merging with characters from 5 other shows including The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, Black Lightning, and Batwoman. Cavill’s Man of Steel laid the foundation for the narratives of the DCEU to take shape.
The two stars have also got the harsh end of the stick from James Gunn and the DC franchise. While the world is still reeling from Henry Cavill’s departure as Superman, rumors have it that Stephen Amell too was denied the opportunity by Gunn to reprise his role as Green Arrow. This history and baggage that both actors share in DC was recently a topic of discussion on social media after a picture of the two stars together went viral.
Netizens Have A Field Day At The Expense Of Henry Cavill and Stephen Amell
Social media can be an uplifting and a cruel place at the same time. Sometimes it can lead to wild speculations as well. This is what happened when a picture of Green Arrow and Superman surfaced online. A picture with Stephen Amell and Henry Cavill together elicited many interesting responses from netizens and not all positive ones considering their fractured history with DC.
While both actors faced their fare share of ridicule online owing to their status in DC, there were many viewers who applauded them for having played a significant part in the franchise.
Stephen Amell And His Future As Green Arrow In James Gunn’s DCEU
Stephen Amell has made Oliver Queen aka Green Arrow his own over a decade of playing the character in the CW series. There were expectations that the actor may find a place in James Gunn’s Gods and Monsters in which Green Arrow is slated to appear along with Superman, Batman, and Supergirl. But it looks like this may not materialize following Amell’s own confession regarding the future of his character. Calling himself the “ custodian” of Green Arrow, the actor said,
“Now, I get the proximity and stuff like that, but there will be another Oliver Queen. There will and it’ll be new and cool and exciting and however much the internet hates it is probably a direct indication as to how good it’s going to be.”
While Amell’s statement indicates a clear shift from the DC universe, the star said that he was and will always be open to playing his beloved character Green Arrow if he were called upon to do so on the condition that it would be in a shorter format and not in a series.
