Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 could be just around the corner, as many are expecting the title to release before the end of this year. Although there are few details and no official announcement, the 2023 launch date has been verified by publisher, Activision. As rumors and leaks continue to circulate throughout the internet, some unconfirmed reports may turn out to be major in-game features. The most recent rumor is that reload cancelling will return in Modern Warfare 3. This has been a highly requested feature from gamers, which could change the entire state of online play.

If you’re unfamiliar with reload cancelling, it is a gameplay technique which allows players to reload more quickly. Instead of waiting for the reload animation to complete, gamers can change weapons, then change back, for a faster magazine fill. This was a feature the developers of Modern Warfare 2, Infinity Ward, chose to remove, in an effort to make the game more realistic. Although reload cancelling is still apparently something you can do in Modern Warfare 2 it has to be at the beginning of the animation, and it cannot be done at any other point.
While some think of reload cancelling as an extremely beneficial feature, others believe it is no more than a hack for highly competitive players. If it were to return in its full capacity it would certainly be a controversial decision among gamers.
The source of this information comes from @BobNetworkUK via Twitter, which was reposted by @ModernWarzone. The user, who is quickly becoming a reliable leaker, made two posts saying the following:
“RUMOR: Reload Cancelling is currently planned to come back with Modern Warfare III.
@ModernWarzone your tweet made me remember lol”
If this is true the next developer of Modern Warfare 3, which is rumored to be Sledgehammer Games, may not care about maintaining realism. In a video game world where Homelander, Starlight, and Black Noir operators can run around fighting Snoop Dogg and Nicki Minaj operators, this might not be a huge stretch. Call of Duty is doing a lot more with crossovers and has stepped over the realistic line several times in recent years. If the reload cancelling feature returns, whether realistic or not, it will certainly create new tension among hardcore and casual gamers alike.
What Is the Next Call of Duty 2023?
There is strong evidence to suggest Modern Warfare 3 is the Call of Duty game coming in 2023. One of the most recent pieces of leaked evidence pointing to the title, comes from a Monster Energy Drink pamphlet. This particular marketing leak showed that gamers would get in-game rewards for Modern Warfare 3 by scanning QR codes attached to the drink. The collaborative display also gave fans a look at the logo for the upcoming game.
Modern Warfare 3 is expected to arrive on shelves by November, which would unsurprising, since Modern Warfare 2 released at the end of October last year. Although Activision has revealed a Call of Duty game will be arriving in 2024, many believe the title will be based on the Persian Gulf War. It is also rumored that the 2024 game will be a part of the Black Ops series opposed to Modern Warfare.
There may not be many complete details and Activision may be withholding information longer than expected, but there have definitely been enough leaks and rumors to make a reasonable guess as to the 2023 and 2024 Call of Duty titles. And since there are only five months left in the year, it would be smart to keep eyes open for Activision to drop some massive reveals in the very near future.
What do you think of the possibility Modern Warfare 3 will be available by the end of 2023? Would gamers benefit from reload cancelling returning to the famed FPS franchise? Leave a comment and let us know your thoughts.
