Mission Impossible Director Hints $3.5B Franchise Might Continue Without Tom Cruise With More Movies Being Planned

When one thinks of actor Tom Cruise, the Mission: Impossible franchise automatically comes to mind. The first part of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning is all set to hit the theatres on 12th July 2023 while the second part is scheduled for release on 28th June 2024. The actor has starred in six Mission: Impossible movies and rumors regarding his exit are surfacing on social media.

There are speculations that Cruise might wrap up his Ethan Hunt days after the second part of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning. Director Christopher McQuarrie has confirmed that these two movies are not the end of the franchise as he has planned out the next installments.

Actor Tom Cruise first played the role of Ethan Hunt back in the first Mission: Impossible, which was released in 1996. For the next two decades, Cruise made sure that he puts his heart and soul into portraying the character and he starred in 5 more Mission: Impossible movies.

However, the actor will turn 61 in July. Performing all those death-defying stunts in the franchise will surely take a toll on his health. Since the announcement of the two parts of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, there are rumors that Cruise is planning to exit the franchise.

Christopher McQuarrie talked about the future of the franchise

It has been revealed by several sources that director Christopher McQuarrie has planned out the future of Mission: Impossible movies and so far, he hasn’t directly acknowledged rumors regarding Cruise’s exit.

As per reports, the two parts of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning are not the end of the franchise and he confirmed that they “already have ideas for what’s next.Mission: Impossible –
Dead Reckoning Part Two will release on June 28, 2024, while the first part will release in the theatres next month.

Christopher McQuarrie once talked about rumors regarding Tom Cruise’s exit

Back in August 2022, the audience needed some information regarding Cruise’s exit, so McQuarrie acknowledged those rumors. It is to be noted that he neither confirmed nor denied those rumors,

“Let me tell you, I’ve been working with Tom Cruise for 15 years and I cannot tell you the number of times I’ve been standing next to the man, witnessed an event, and then read about it in the trades the next day and none of what they describe is actually true.”

McQuarrie has also highlighted in the past how much he loves working with Cruise. This was almost one year ago, and now once again the speculations are growing stronger.
