The Mission: Impossible franchise has a star-studded, led by Tom Cruise. With its seventh installment coming to the theatres soon, there has been a new addition to the cast in the form of Tom Cruise’s alleged ex-girlfriend, Hayley Atwell.
As the Marvel star receives compliments after the world premiere of the movie in Rome, the movie’s director Christopher McQuarrie says that Atwell does not belong in the popular Mission: Impossible franchise.
Why Hayley Atwell Does Not Belong In The $3.5 Billion Franchise
Hayley Atwell has established herself as an action star after starring as Peggy Carter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She even donned the shield in Multiverse of Madness in a brief stint. And now the Agents of Shield actor has joined hands with the action mastermind Tom Cruise for Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One.
As the world premiere of the movie recently took place in Rome, praises and appreciation have been pouring in from critics for the Marvel star’s excellent performance. Her role has been called one of the most captivating characters of the franchise.
However, when asked about what role she is playing and how the character fits into the storyline, the director Christopher McQuarrie was lost for words. In an interview, he remarked how Atwell, or rather her character does not fit into the franchise,
“Hayley’s character didn’t have a name for a long, long time. She has her own objective, and she more or less becomes ensnared in this movie. What you have here is a character who absolutely does not belong in a Mission: Impossible movie, and she’s doing everything she can to get out of it.”
Despite the initial inhibition about Atwell’s character, her performance seems to have earned the approval of films critic.
Tom Cruise And Hayley Atwell’s Supposed Relationship
Last year, rumors were flying high that the 60-year-old action star had finally found love after three devastating divorces. However, as soon as those rumors came about, Hayley Atwell shut them down by claiming that while she did love the War of the Worlds star but only in a platonic way.
“What I feel is the truly extraordinary power of platonic love, which seems to be sometimes under-represented. And my love for Tom, my love for McQuarrie, my love for the process of this, and also the people who they keep very close to them and who are very present on set, has a wholesomeness to it. That for me, I just found so beautiful, so, yeah, I can freely say ‘I love this group of people.’”
With the rumors definitely put to rest, seeing the two stars together for the first time on the big screen would be extraordinary to see.
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One would be released on July 12, 2023.
