Jackie Chan is known for his impressive stunts and action sequences in his films. He has developed a unique fighting style, incorporating acrobatics, improvisation, and humor. Chan performs his stunts himself, often without the use of special effects or stunt doubles. His dedication to realism has led to several injuries and close calls, but he continues to push the boundaries of what is possible in action films. Chan’s stunts often involve props and his surroundings, such as ladders, chairs, and walls.
However, there are times when even Jackie Chan has to take the backseat. In Police Story 3: Supercop, a 1992 Hong Kong action film, Jackie Chan starred alongside Michelle Yeoh and Maggie Cheung. Yeoh shared an interesting instance while breaking down her most iconic characters in an interview with GQ last year.
Was Jackie Chan Insecure Of Machelle Yeoh’s On-screen Presence
Two of the most remarkable stunts in Police Story 3 were performed by Jackie Chan and Michelle Yeoh. However, one of them almost ended in tragedy for Yeoh, while the other made Chan feel genuinely scared due to its absurdity and danger. Chan has previously confessed that he had to up his game in terms of stunts for Police Story 3, as Yeoh’s performance was so impressive that he feared being overshadowed.
“Jackie was the one who had a big problem. He came up to me at one stage, and he said, ‘Michelle, are your trying to kill me?’ And I’m like, No, why would I do that? We’re buddies, right? And he goes like, ‘No.’ Cause I was doing this crazy motorcycle stunt, right? When he saw me saw do that stunt, he was like, ‘Oh no, if you do anything more than that, where am I gonna come from?'” Yeoh told GQ.
In the film, Chan plays Kevin Chan Ka-kui, a Hong Kong police officer tasked with assisting the Chinese police in their efforts to bring down a drug lord. Along the way, he teams up with a female undercover agent, played by Michelle Yeoh, and the two work together to take down the drug lord’s organization. The film features a number of thrilling action sequences, including a spectacular stunt in which Chan hangs from a helicopter by a rope ladder.
Jackie Chan And His Death-defying Stunts
Jackie Chan is renowned for his daredevil stunts in movies. He is known for performing his own stunts, often without the use of safety equipment or special effects, which has earned him the reputation as one of the most fearless and skilled stunt performers in the world of cinema. Chan has broken numerous bones and suffered other injuries throughout his career while performing these stunts.
Some of his most famous stunts include sliding down a 21-story skyscraper and jumping onto a hot air balloon in Police Story 3, sliding down a clock tower in Project A, and hanging off the side of a speeding bus in Police Story.
Chan’s stunt work is not limited to just action scenes; he also incorporates humor into his stunts, such as when he used a ladder as a weapon in Drunken Master. He has even performed stunts on live television, including at the opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
