Samuel L. Jackson’s portrayal of Nick Fury is one of the most known characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Its impact went beyond MCU. It has been reported that the DCEU had planned to have Michael Keaton’s Batman as an answer to Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury.
However, this plan was not carried out since DC Films head Walter Hamada stepped down from his position in October 2022. However, as the release dates for some films were shuffled and Keaton’s schedule couldn’t allot time for the film that could not happen.
DCEU Planned Michael Keaton’s Batman as Nick Fury
The Hollywood Reporter reports that Michael Keaton’s Batman was envisioned as the Nick Fury-esque character for the DC Universe. The studio intended to make it for the franchise, as a response to Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury.
“Hamada wanted Michael Keaton’s version of the character to be akin to Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury in the Marvel movies — an elder statesman who could pop up in various films, including the now-shelved Batgirl, as well as The Lost Kingdom,” the outlet revealed. “But shifting release dates muddled things. At one point, The Lost Kingdom was set to open in March 2023, several months before Keaton’s return in June 2023’s The Flash.”
The Batman cameo in The Lost Kingdom was thus removed.
