MCU Forgot to Give a Closure to Tom Holland and Robert Downey Jr’s On-screen Relationship

MCU Forgot to Give a Closure to Tom Holland and Robert Downey Jr’s On-screen Relationship

Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man is one of the most iconic characters in all of Hollywood. Featuring first in Iron Man, he took over the superhero genre and redefined it in a way none have ever before. Over the course of the many years, he was part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we have seen his character interact with many different people and form many different types of relationships.

None, however, can be compared to the one he shared with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. This, however, did not last very long as after the death of Tony Stark, all we have seen is the effects of this loss on young Peter Parker. It would seem though, that this wasn’t the only tragedy as Marvel may have forgotten to give closer to one of the biggest plots shared by the two characters.

Tom Holland’s Peter Parker and Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark’s Relationship

The relationship that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and Robert Downey Jr.‘s Iron Man shared was, perhaps, one of the most heartfelt ones in cinema history. When we first see the two interact in Captain America: Civil War, we see a young high school student named Peter Parker meeting his idol Tony Stark, a man consumed by guilt after the consequences of his actions confronted him in the worst way imaginable. What starts off as a mentor-mentee dynamic, slowly flourishes into one almost like that of a father and son, making fans fall in love with the two characters even more.

This, however, was tragically cut short when Stark dies tragically at the end of Avengers: Endgame, after winning against the biggest enemy they have faced yet, Thanos. The two last interact here, when Stark is breathing his last few breaths and Parker tells him that they have won, filling the eyes of the audience with tears. While this feels conclusive enough, it is the plot set after the death of Iron Man which is yet to be tied up.

What Happened To E.D.I.T.H. After The Events Of Spider-Man: Far From Home?

After the death of Tony Stark, we see Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Far From Home, shattered after the death of his father figure. Over the course of this film, we find out that after his death, Stark left Parker E.D.I.T.H., a pair of sunglasses that have access to Stark Industries’ global satellite network along with an arsenal of missiles and drones. We also find out what can happen with these fall into the hands of someone with the wrong intentions.

While the film ends with Parker getting E.D.I.T.H. back, the attention is very quickly stolen by his identity being revealed, giving no obvious conclusion as to what is to happen to these glasses. This means that the MCU still has to find a definitive fate for them, considering leaving something this powerful in the background is not likely.
