Robert Downey Jr.’s portrayal of Tony Stark aka Iron Man in the MCU will definitely go as one of the most iconic pieces of acting in the history of cinema. The “genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist” superhero was introduced to the world back in 2008 with the movie Iron Man which was also the first movie of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After having played the iconic role of Stark in 9 movies over a decade, RDJ finally bid farewell to his role back in 2019 in Avengers: Endgame.
The whole fandom cried in the theatres as the very words which marked the beginning of MCU were uttered by Tony Stark for one last time as he sacrificed himself for the greater good. Ever since Avengers: Endgame, fans have been looking for theories or hints that may point at the return of Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man.
However, all we have found so far was just disappointment until now.
New images from the set of Captain America 4 hint at the return of Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man
Everyone thought that Captain America: Civil War would mark the end of the series after Chris Evans who played the role of Steve Rogers aka Captain America retired at the end of Avengers: Endgame. However, in the series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Anthony Mackie who plays the role of Sam Wilson aka Falcon finally took on the mantle of Captain America that Rogers asked him to before he handed over his shield in Avengers: Endgame.
The filming of Captain America: New World Order started earlier this year in March and new images from the set of the movie have been dropping every now and then.
In some newly-revealed set photos, the logo of the Roxxon corporation was visible which may hint at the return of Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man in the upcoming Marvel movies.
The Roxxon energy corporation’s appearance in the Iron Man movies
For the unversed, the Roxxon energy company is a major easter egg that has been visible in the background of all of Robert Downey Jr.’s 3 Iron Man movies. In the first Iron Man movie, the symbol of Roxxon company was visible on top of a building behind Iron Monger during the final fight sequence of the movie.
In Iron Man 2, the symbol of Roxxon was visible behind Whiplash during the fight sequence in Monaco. In Iron Man 3, the whole final fight sequence was fought on the Roxxon Norco’s oil tanker.
Marvel is pretty good at dropping Easter Eggs every now and then. If this will culminate into something that is still unknown. But the connection has the fans devising theories that their beloved superhero with the nanotech armor will return in the final battle against Kang in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. And with the MCU expanding to the multiverse, anything is possible.
