Some fans praised the emotional payoff of Kenobi’s showdown with Darth Vader, while others complained about the show’s slow pace and uninspired writing. Many others felt the show didn’t take enough chances and was too cautious. Still, despite the complaints, the show has won over a devoted fanbase, and many are looking forward to seeing where Kenobi’s story goes next.

McGregor hinted at further developments for the character during his recent presentation at Star Wars Celebration. When asked if a second season was in the works, McGregor hopefully said that “someone might think we should do some more” in the future.

“The Star Wars part of my life is back and it feels really good. You know hopefully someone might think we should do some more.”

Some fans have extrapolated from these remarks the possibility of future Obi-Wan material. Many also believe McGregor is dropping hints about an upcoming Obi-Wan film or spinoff series.

Where Will Star Wars Go From Here?

The president of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy, recently gave an interview to Variety in which she discussed the future of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Kennedy has not completely ruled out the prospect of a second season, saying, “That is not in active development,” but it is not completely outside of the realm of possibility.

“That is not in active development. But I never say never, because there’s always the possibility. That show was so well-received and [director] Deborah Chow did such a spectacular job. Ewan McGregor really wants to do another. Everybody’s all hands on deck with what we’re doing right now, as you can see by what we showed everybody [at the Celebration]. We’ll turn our attention to that again maybe down the road.”

In addition, Kennedy praised director Deborah Chow and the show’s resounding success. In addition, Ewan McGregor has also stated his desire to reprise his role as Obi-Wan. Although production may not proceed with season 2, they leave the door open for reintroducing the Jedi symbol.

It’s easy to see why Lucasfilm would rather work on something fresh than try to prolong the success of the Star Wars franchise at this point. Executives appear comfortable with maintaining Obi-Wan Kenobi as a limited series, despite the prospect of a second season. After the first season’s success, it’s evident that Lucasfilm is dedicated to developing new stories for the Star Wars canon.

After the debut of multiple new Disney+ series and films, the company may reconsider the concept. Ewan McGregor could then reprise his iconic role and bring more of Obi-Wan’s exploits to the big screen.
