Max Payne is one of those games that brings a certain nostalgia to gamers. And now a mod has been released for Max Payne 3 which sees the original grimacing face of the titular character brought back. The face which was based on Remedy’s Creative Director Sam Lake, complete with unforgettable squint which no doubt gamers will remember well.
Whilst Sam Lake’s likeness was used for the original Max Payne game, it took a different direction in the sequels which then followed. The likeness of the former NYPD Detective was modelled after actor Timothy Gibbs in sequel Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne and then followed by James McCaffrey in Max Payne 3.
However, modder AlexSavvy has brought that unforgettable original Max Payne look back after releasing the mod on Nexus Mods. The Sam Lake mod bringing that likeness to the Max Payne 3 title.

What has AlexSavvy done with the Max Payne mod?
So with this mod AlexSavvy has made it so that players can play Max Payne 3 with the likeness of Sam Lake from the original game. Whilst the original title was quite ahead of the curve in terms of graphics at that time, in working on this mod AlexSavvy had loads of work to do in terms of matching outfits to the body of Sam Lake and also undertaking the massive task of working on the various hairstyles which are seen throughout the games narrative.
AlexSavvy went further on this by managing to preserve all existing wounds and facial expressions. Not only that, he also brought back the iconic look of Hawaiian shirt and leather jacket combination which many will remember from the first game.
It has been noted that the mod replaces around 98 in-game models and 66 textures to reconstruct the likeness of Sam Lake. So no small feat by AlexSavvy. The mod looks like a ton of work and no doubt countless hours, have been put into it to get it where it is.
Looking at recent feedback on the mod suggests that gamers are impressed with what they’ve seen and AlexSavvy has ‘nailed it’. Many have voiced criticism over the years over how the look of the character has changed from the original game throughout the sequels. And despite it taking over a decade, fans of the series can now enjoy Max Payne 3 with the likeness of the character they’ve always longed for.
