The close friendship between Matt Damon and Ben Affleck is well known.
Also, it is remarkable that their friendships have endured for so long in a field where relationships are formed and destroyed with each new film. They worked together again on projects like Dogma, The Last Duel, and most recently, Air, after Good Will Hunting (1997) brought the pair fame and their first Oscar.
However, the two had not worked together on-screen for a while prior to Air or even The Last Duel. The reason, according to Damon, was that his friend kept the best roles for himself. In addition, the actor disclosed that they had been leading separate lives for a long time.
Well, the 52-year-old Oppenheimer star wanted to be included in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so he immediately agreed to appear as Loki in Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love and Thunder.
Even the actor himself once admitted that he thought his role was quite funny and talked about what first attracted him to the film.
Ben Affleck Dissed Matt Damon for Begging for Extra Role in MCU Film?
Few friendships have been as enduring and successful as the one between Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. Their bond has not only endured the test of time but has also irrevocably altered the landscape of cinema.
They both achieved success in Hollywood after starring in Gus Van Sant’s Good Will Hunting, which they both co-wrote. Even though Damon has been playing in the major leagues for a while, he still makes weird cameos, sometimes even going unnoticed.
His Marvel role as Loki in Thor: Ragnarok was one of these lesser-known roles, and that is probably the most well-known now. Apparently, he needed special permission to reprise this peculiar role in Thor: Love and Thunder, and it sounds like it was pretty serious business.
When Ben Affleck appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the host jokingly posed the following question to him:
“That’s so sad in a way that that you went on to become Batman, not only didn’t he [Matt Damon] get to be Robin, he’s like begging for little bit parts in Thor. Like he’s like Ricky Jr.”
Then, Affleck mockingly stated while dissing his close friend:
“Like he [Matt Damon] was an extra in Thor. Listen, this is an up and down business.”
Matt Damon Called His Thor: Ragnarok Cameo ‘Hilarious’
After his unexpected appearance in Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok, Matt Damon revealed that he thought his part in the threequel was funny and talked about what drew him to do the film.
The Departed and Good Will Hunting star was rumored to have snuck into a role before Thor: Ragnarok’s release and fans were not let down by his comic timing. In actuality, the actor was drawn to the role by the promise of a lighthearted adventure.
When speaking with Collider, Damon was questioned about whether his appearance in Thor: Ragnarok was a spontaneous decision or if he had always wanted to be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“Chris just called me up, and Taika called me up, and I’m friends with those guys. They pitched me the idea and I just thought it was hysterical, the idea of basically an intergalactic community theater actor kind of living out Tom Hiddleston’s character’s fantasy. I just thought it was just a great, funny bit, and very easy to do. Those guys were a lot of fun, and Taika runs a really fun set. It was a light lift for me.”
Although we are unsure when we might see Damon again Loki in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we can see our real Thor in action in the Thor film franchise.
You can watch the Thor film series, which is streaming on Disney Plus.
