Hard work and dedication are two of the cornerstones in the life of an actor and actress as the performances that they have to give on screen can be nothing short of borderline perfect. Therefore, A-List stars like Matt Damon among many others are willing to go to any lengths to inhabit the character they are assigned to play in front of the rolling camera.
And whether it be unbelievable and extreme physical transformations or going through mental and emotional conditioning to bring a character to life, Damon has made all the efforts that he could for his roles. In fact, when shooting for this particular film, the star suffered the most discomfort since not only did he have to drastically lose weight, but also had to wear a ton of makeup to play his character as intended.
Matt Damon Had A Tough Time Shooting For The Talented Mr. Ripley
Known for playing the role of the iconic Treadstone covert operative Jason Bourne, Hollywood star Matt Damon is no stranger to tough and challenging roles in his career, some of them executed with so much finesse and perfection that people still talk about them. Therefore, when he got the chance to become Tom Ripley, one of the most talented con artists and criminals from the world of literary fiction, he just couldn’t help but take on the challenge, which brought a series of hardships for the actor to face.

While preparing for the film, the Good Will Hunting star was told to lose almost 30 pounds of his weight as the character was supposed to be not very skinny, but a thin and non-muscular man. At the same time, he was also showered with pasty make-up, which was also required by the script seeing that Tom Ripley had to look very pale in comparison to his co-stars Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow, who were required to keep a light tan on their skin. Talking about his extreme weight loss routine along with the rest of his schedule, the star said:
“I have to run six miles a day, I can’t eat this food, I have to learn how to play the piano, that’s just a checklist, a shopping list of things you have to do every day,”
While they might’ve been hardships that the star had to endure to his limits, the end result was a critically and commercially successful crime thriller that won the hearts of the audience.
