In the year 2008, the Bourne Identity star was approached to play the role of Dan White, a supporting role in director Gus Van Sant’s biopic about American Gay Rights Activist Harvey Milk in the film titled Milk. The character was based on the real-life Daniel James White, the American politician who assassinated Milk on 27th November 1978. The role was a prolific one that got the Avengers: Endgame star an Oscar Nomination for Best Supporting Role.

Unfortunately, Damon was unable to take the role due to scheduling conflicts between this film and the others he was working on at the time. The other project that made him drop out from the role of Dan White was his role as Koichi in Hayao Miyazaki’s animated masterpiece Ponyo.
