For those counting down the days until Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 releases in October, many of you are probably keeping a close eye out for any kind of news about the upcoming title. This is compared to its original PS4 version, and angry fans are calling it this game’s “puddlegate“.

Why Are Fans Concerned About This Graphical Downgrade?
Over the years, gamers have been eagerly awaiting the next installment in the Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise. Once we received a trailer for the upcoming game, the excitement skyrocketed and fans couldn’t wait to get their hands on the next title. But now, due to a graphical downgrade, many are concerned for the overall game as they feel it will receive the same treatment as the first title in the series.
The reason behind this is when the trailer for the first Marvel Spider-Man game was released, it looked stunning graphically and had many fans excited to play the game for the first time. But when it finally released, gamers realized that the title had a significant graphical downgrade compared to the trailer. The preview showed off much more graphic detail in surrounding areas, like puddles that had in-detail reflections, but once the game was released the puddles themselves were completely removed.
This became known as “puddlegate” and had many fans worried the entire game would be graphically downgraded, which luckily it wasn’t. However now, gamers are worried Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is getting the same treatment as it has been revealed by Twitter user @Sharjok that Spider-Man’s suit has been downgraded. Some of the textures in the suit have been removed, causing it to look like what some fans would describe as a “Fortnite Skin,” which has them worried whether this will effect the game overall.
How Could This Affect the Overall Gameplay Experience of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2?
Even though many fans believe this visual downgrade isn’t anything to worry about, there are some who think this could be the start of an overall visual downgrade for the entire game. They are worried once the game releases in October, it will be quite a disappointing release. But this likely won’t be the case, as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is looking to be quite a fantastic game, which will have a lot of content for players to enjoy, whilst also being quite demanding graphics wise.
The main reason as to why this graphical downgrade has occurred is most likely the same as the first game. This is because the game is already quite graphically demanding and will need all of the power it can get to generate the world that players will be traversing. In order to do this the developers will have to make a sacrifice somewhere to help the game run at a smoother pace.
To make these changes is something no developer wants to do, as they work incredibly hard to enhance their games. They spend a lot of time creating the models and working on the textures for their characters. So to see Spidey’s suit have such a downgrade will most likely hurt the developers as much as it hurts us, but if it is essential for the game to run, it is a small price to pay.
What do you think about these changes to Spider-Man’s suit? Will this affect your opinion of the game, or will you enjoy it either way? Let us know in the comments what you think!
