Robert Downey Jr. has been the face of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for over a decade, his era only ending after Tony Stark’s heroic death in Avengers: Endgame. After the movie, everyone was left in shock, taking in the events of what they experienced but, also trying to absorb the fact that fans would no longer see the actor portray his most iconic role ever again.
With Oppenheimer’s upcoming release, the actor has steadily dedicated himself to a life outside that of Marvel and Iron Man. Even though his role was one of the most loved characters, it has not stopped him from pursuing a career beyond that of a superhero. Despite Dr. Dolittle’s underwhelming performance, Christopher Nolan’s movie is one which can completely draft out Downey’s future in the Hollywood industry.
Christopher Nolan Loves To Work With Robert Downey Jr.
Christopher Nolan‘s Oppenheimer is only the second movie after Avengers: Endgame that Robert Downey Jr. has acted in since 2019. The movie has seen a lot of the actor’s dedication and the star-studded cast is sure to ensure the movie’s success. Nolan’s movies always manage to catch the eye of the audience and he is known to hire actors with a long-term vision in mind.
“We all know that Robert Downey Jr. is one of the great movie stars. It’s so easy to forget that he’s also one of the greatest actors of all time. Watching him lose himself in that performance…was just an incredible reminder of what an amazing actor he is.”
Actors like Gary Oldman and Cillian Murphy are both returning to work with Nolan. Downey’s MCU career has kept him busy for over a decade. However, now he finally has a breather, not bound by a contract either. Without a busy schedule holding him back, the actor has shaken hands with Nolan and he too is heavily admiring the actor for just how commendable he is with his work.
Robert Downey Jr.’s Role In Oppenheimer Could Secure His Hollywood Future
Christopher Nolan’s movie will see Cillian Murphy in the lead role alongside Robert Downey Jr. as the main antagonist. He would be a stark contrast to his MCU character. While Iron Man was the savior of the universe, Lewis Strauss would be the exact opposite of that. Strauss is everything that is stopping J. Robert Oppenheimer from achieving his goals and that could very easily prevent Downey from being typecast.
A common issue that big actors face is the fear of being typecast. This would be what Downey would essentially escape thanks to working with Nolan. Furthermore, it would open new doors for him to step into Hollywood without Iron Man being a shadow and being more of a mantle.
