Bradley Cooper is one of the most exceptional individuals in the film industry. From acting in massive projects like The Guardians of the Galaxy franchise and the Hangover movies to directing projects like A Star Is Born, and even producing movies like Joker and Nightmare Ally, it would seem that there is nothing that he can’t do.
Cooper has appeared in quite a few projects with The Hunger Games actress, Jennifer Lawrance. Almost every movie the two have been in has been a massive success. So it is quite surprising that Cooper wasn’t all too keen on taking up a role in Lawrence’s 2015 movie, Joy, despite their impeccable onscreen chemistry.
Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence Have Undeniable Onscreen Chemistry
Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence have worked together quite a few times till now. From Silver Linings Playbook to American Hustle and Joy, all of which have had Oscar Nominations and wins, It seems that whenever the two are on the same project, it is bound to be a success. Though the two have admitted to not interacting much on screen, their chemistry on camera is truly something unique on its own.
“I wonder if these guys who do Dancing With The Stars like have a connection forever. I really do think that really provided the basis by which we can just work together. We don’t talk often, but when I showed up in Boston for Joy, then all of a sudden it was like we never stopped. We just started where we left off, and that’s rare. It’s just easy to look at her and feel like I’m telling the truth.”
Cooper believes that this started during the filming of Silver Linings Playbook, where the two had to practice the iconic dance routine without knowing each other much. They ended up getting quite close due to that and are extremely supportive of each other’s career achievements.
Bradley Cooper Did Not Want to Work in Jennifer Lawrence’s Joy
During an interview while doing press for the 2015 movie, Joy, Bradley Cooper opened up about the process of him accepting the role of Neil Walker in the movie. He revealed that he wasn’t sure if he was the right fit for the role initially. He talked about bringing up these reservations to the director of the movie, David O. Russell.
“We had discussions about this guy and whether I was right for the role, but he saw something in me I didn’t think was there. I thought that an older actor would have been much better suited and actually I remember we were talking about it in the lobby of the Greenwich Hotel when one of the actors I was pitching to him walked through the lobby. It was pretty funny,” Bradley mentioned.
He told Russell that he believed that an older actor would have been better for the role, believing himself to not be the right choice for the character. He even ended up suggesting other actors who he thought would better suit the role. Russell, however, was adamant that Cooper was the right guy for it. Afterward, The Guardians of the Galaxy actor agreed with the director, saying that he is glad that Russell pressured him to take up the role.
