Scarlett Johansson lost the opportunity to star in Elizabethtown to Kristen Dunst
During her early days in Hollywood, Scarlett Johansson wasn’t the dominant force in the industry as she is now. The Lucy actress had to wait a long while before cementing her place as Kristen Dunst, known for playing the role of MJ in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, would surpass her in several instances.
In one case, the Black Widow star was originally considered to star in 2005’s Elizabethtown and came really close to acquiring the role. However, considering the movie was more inclined towards telling a more quirky and comedic love story, the role later went into the hands of Kristen Dunst instead.
Even though it wasn’t the biggest setback for Johansson as the movie didn’t quite succeed at the box office and was bashed by the critics. But it wasn’t the only movie that the MCU star lost to Dunst.
Scarlett Johansson missed the opportunity to star alongside Robin Williams in Jumanji
Even before losing the role of Claire Colburn to the Spider-Man actress, Scarlett Johansson once lost the role of Judy Shepherd in 1995’s Jumanji to Dunst. Considering that the movie went on to become a huge success, as it comprised Robin Williams at its forefront, the movie could have provided a much early break to Johansson’s career.
But despite losing this golden opportunity, the actress later opened up and expressed that she doesn’t hold any grudge on the fact that she lost the opportunity to star alongside Robin Williams. The MCU actress even revealed that even though she wasn’t part of the movie, that didn’t stop her from watching it in the theatres and enjoying the movie’s brilliance.
Despite coming across several obstacles during her initial days in the industry, it didn’t stop Johansson from making it big in the realms of Hollywood. As the Lucy star went on to garner immense fame in the world of superheroes through her role as Black Widow and even earned two Oscar nominations for Jojo Rabbit and Marriage Story.
