When A Quiet Place starring John Krasinski and Emily Blunt released in 2018, it became a big box office success, leading to a sequel A Quiet Place 2 in 2020. The horror film which is set in the post-apocalyptic period follows the story of a couple who struggle to raise their children in a world inhabited by blind extraterrestrial creatures with an acute sense of hearing. Both films which were directed by John Krasinski also saw Oscar-nominated actor Djimon Hounsou joining the cast in the sequel. The prequel titled A Quiet Place: Day One is in the works and will hit theatres in 2024 with Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o set to play a prominent role.
Lupita Nyong’o shares details of A Quiet Place: Day One
Actor Lupita Nyong’o has joined the team of A Quiet Place: Day One. Based on an original story by John Krasinski, the film will be helmed by director Michael Sarnoski and will explore the origins of the sound-hunting aliens and their invasion of Earth. The Wakanda Forever star took to Instagram to post a picture with her co-stars Joseph Quinn from Stranger Things and Alex Wolff from Hereditary along with Djimon Hounsou to share some exciting news about the release of the film saying,
“See (you) us in exactly one year!”
There is still no concrete information about Lupita Nyong’o’s role in the film. Fans of the Black Panther star are expectedly eager to see her in a character befitting her talent.
Djimon Hounsou returns to the franchise in A Quiet Place: Day one
Apart from Lupita Nyong’o, A Quiet Place: Day One will also feature a returning member of the franchise, Djimon Hounsou. The Blood Diamond actor played the leader of a small island colony of survivors in A Quiet Place 2. According to reports coming in, the prequel will most likely explore the character’s efforts to escape to the island along with his family.
It is still unclear though if Djimon Hounsou will be at the forefront of the narrative or if he will only play a supporting role in the film. Fans of the franchise will want to see the character developing his haunted ties to his past with a meatier role than in the sequel.
