Ruffalo stated that he wrote a letter to the director of Shutter Island Martin Scorsese and expressed the desire to work with him. While talking about the 80-year-old director, the Zodiac actor said,
“I’ve been a big fan of his, pretty much through 20 years of acting and it’s always been a dream of mine. So I wrote a letter to him saying how much I wanted to work with him, and it worked.”
In another interview, Ruffalo stated that the movie Shutter Island was director Scorsese’s playground. He made the movie just how he wanted it. At the box office and with regard to critics, the film was a huge success.

“Leo is completely down to earth. He was very generous with me, he was generous with everybody. He’s very serious about what he does and very classy. I had a great time with him. And we did spend a lot of time together. Out of about 100 days of shooting, we were together for 93. You get to know someone very well over three months.”
The Inception actor and the Spotlight actor bonded very well on the set of their movie. They worked for a very long time together and reportedly both actors had a great time together during the filming of the movie.
