Marvel Recasting Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man, Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers after Avengers: Secret Wars? Industry Report Reveals Bombshell Update

Robert Downey Jr’s Tony Stark and Chris Evans’s Steve Rogers are two of the most beloved characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Having been responsible for laying the foundations for the MCU that we know and love today, their characters have seen some of the most beautifully told storylines over the span of their individual trilogies, as well as their appearances in projects outside of Captain America and Iron Man movies. Their appearances in the Avengers franchise have been responsible for some of the most iconic and loved moments in the entire franchise.

With fans sharing such a deep sentiment towards these characters, it is only natural that when the two left the big screen, for their legacies to be followed up by new personalities, audiences were upset, constantly wishing and looking for opportunities for their return. With this in mind, recent rumors relating to Downey and Evans’ characters may do more than just upset fans as speculations rise of them being recast.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe May Get A Soft Reboot

Marvel Studios has been under a lot of heat in recent times, with their projects being heavily criticized for a number of different aspects, including poor visual effects, the passing of their storylines, and the rate at which they release their projects. This problem isn’t something the studio is unique in experiencing as the DC Universe has faced similar issues, just on a much larger scale.

The DCU has had a problem with its projects severely underperforming for many years now, so much so that the fan base for their cinematic universe has concerningly thinned out. As a way to save their dying franchise, the studio decided to come up with The Flash, a film designed to completely wipe the slate clean of all their past project and start fresh and strong. While the reboot may not have done what it was intended to do, with the Ezra Miller film becoming the biggest financial loss for a superhero film, a soft reboot may be exactly what the MCU needs.

Avengers: Secret Wars May Be A Soft Reboot For The Marvel Cinematic Universe

The biggest reason for The Flash’s failure may have been the fact that DC explicitly announced that the film would act as a reboot for their franchise. Marvel might take a much more subtle approach to this as many believe that Avengers: Secret Wars may be the MCU’s unofficial soft-reboot into a newer phase for the franchise. This film is expected to release in 2027 and will act as the closing project for the Multiverse Saga, as well as the fifth phase of the franchise.

Many expect this reboot to also come with recasts of iconic and beloved characters, meaning that there is a chance that Robert Downey Jr and Chris Evans‘ characters, who have left behind a legacy that may never be able to be followed, might get recast and reboot into newer and younger versions compared to their actors. If this is to be the case, there is a very slim chance that this will be accepted by fans of the franchise without any pushback.
