Zack Snyder snaps at DC Studios for duplicating MCU strategies for success

In an interview with the New York Times, the director shared his views on the superheroes of DC Extended Universe. On being asked about the grandness of these superheroes in the future, he shared,

“It’s obvious I take these characters and their mythology really seriously. I want them to be fully realized as characters, existing in that world. I don’t think that it’s cool to have fun at their expense. And there was a vision that we had, a complete universe, fully fleshed out, that we really wanted to take all the way.”

Army of the Dead director also shared that Marvel is way more successful due to its strategies. He said that he knew that Marvel was putting heart and comedy into their movies, which has led to its massive success. The director shared,

“I knew it before BvS when we made Man of Steel. Marvel is doing something else. They’re doing, at the highest level, this popular action-comedy with a heart. And they have that nailed. An effort to duplicate that is insanity because they’re so good at it. What DC had was mythology at an epic level, and we were going to take them on this amazing journey. Frankly, I was the only one saying that.”

Snyder was associated with DC Extended Universe till 2021 when he released Zack Snyder’s Justice League on public demand.

Numerous fans of DCEU took to X (former Twitter) to express their opinions.

One said,

“Sure. But Snyder and DC should have stuck to adaptations of the comics. He was good at that. When he significantly diverged from that the quality of his films nosedived.”

Another said,

“Say whatever you want about Snyder but he at least tried to differentiate DC from Marvel he wanted to do something unique with its world and characters.”
