Even since Jonathan Majors’ legal troubles came about, there were rumors of Marvel replacing him. While fans were actively pitching the idea of Majors being replaced by Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 star Chukwudi Iwuji, Marvel was tongue-tied. While fans haven’t been as kind to Majors, Marvel has been rumored to have forgiven him and moved on.
Jonathan Majors’ character, Kang the Conqueror, is a crucial part of Marvel’s Phase 5, and hence Marvel not replacing him comes as big news amid his legal battle.
Marvel Would Not Be Replacing Jonathan Majors
Jonathan Majors‘ Kang is one of the biggest and major characters in Marvel’s Phase 5. The main villain and a time-traveling one, is a formidable character, making him too hard to handle. When in Loki season 1 Sylvie, the other Loki variant, killed Kang the Conquerer, she plunged the Multiverse into utter chaos and opened the chance for other evil Kang variants to wreak havoc.
Now as season 2 of Loki is set to release in October of this year, its trailer has confirmed that Jonatha Majors will be reprising his role as Victor Timely, one other variant of Kang the Conquerer. After being arrested for assault and harassment, the season 2 trailer of Loki seems to have also put the rumors of Majors being replaced or kicked off the entire franchise to rest permanently.
Known for being an acting genius, Jonatha Majors’ career in the Marvel-verse is secured since Kang is also set to appear in the next two Avengers movies including Avengers: Secret Wars, which will primarily revolve around his character. As to how fans react, many expressed that they can’t wait to have the Creed star back to reprise his role. On the other hand, some lone voices claim Marvel would have been better off replacing Kang or bringing in a new, more intimidating villain.
Fans Wanted Chukwudi Iwuji To Replace Jonathan Majors
While Jonatha Majors was dabbling with law troubles and battling fans’ anger, certain Marvel fans claimed they wanted Chukwudi Iwuji to replace him. Known for playing the High Evolutionary in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, Chukwudi Iwuji earned widespread praise for his performance.
Seeing him taking on the villainous role, fans started the theory to have Iwuji replace Majors as Kang or introduce him as one of the variants of Kang the Conquerer. While this was just a fan-created rumor, it took the world of social media by storm and an avalanche of posts urging Marvel to cast him.
Much to their disappointment, Jonathan Majors will be back as Kang in Loki season 2 on October 6, 2023, on Disney+.
