Thor is pretty much the very zenith of power in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Some may argue that captain Marvel or even the Hulk could be more powerful than Thor. But the Norse God of Thunder is arguably the strongest Avenger the MCU has to offer. Thor Odinson, armed with the Stormbreaker and the power of lightning and thunder, absolutely crushed Thanos’ army in Infinity War. But he was already a force to be reckoned with by the time Thor: Ragnarok ended.
But Marvel Comics has already confirmed a long time ago that a new hero who will be coming in Eternals has an ace up his sleeve. This Hero is stated to be more powerful than any comic book version of Thor. This squarely puts the hero on a level stronger than the Ragnarok Thor.
Who Is This Mystery Hero We Speak Of?
Marvel Studios is set to introduce Black Knight to the MCU in the Eternals movie. Played by Kit Harrington, the character known as Dane Whitman has the potential to unlock a magnitude of power that dwarfs even that of the God of Thunder.

Who Is The Black Knight?
Dane Whitman was a renowned scientist, a figure of respect in his discipline. When he realized he is the inheritor of the Accursed Ebony Blade – a mystical blade that has been in his family for generations, his life changes. First wielded by Sir Percy of Scandia, the Ebony Blade grants amazing powers but comes at a terrible cost.
Back when Spider-Man and X-Men were stomping Avengers issues in terms of comic book sales, the Earth’s Mightiest heroes were reduced to being side wingers. That was when a little known hero called the Black Knight was awarded membership and joined the Avengers. Dane Whitman was not as beloved by his fellow heroes. His habit of talking in Arthurian English was a topic of disdain. Black Knight used it as a coping mechanism to steer clear of the Ebony Blade’s curse. He was the butt of many jokes in early issues.
It was only in recent comics that Black Knight gained the respect and awe he deserved.
Enter The All-New, All Powerful Black Knight
The Ebony Blade, just like Mjolnir, was forged out of materials found in the stars. Merlin forged the metal the Ebony Blade is made of from a mysterious meteorite that fell on Earth many centuries ago. Knull, the God of Symbiotes and one of the most powerful entities in existence, has claimed even the Black Knight has no idea of the potential of the Ebony Blade. Knull states it could be used to very well crack the world in half.
Other peculiar properties make it rather intriguing a weapon. The very nature of the weapon makes it the polar opposite of Mjolnir. While the latter brings light to darkness, the Ebony Blade brings darkness to light. As Black Knight: Curse Of the Ebony Blade states, the sword “lightens only in shadow”. Mjolnir allows only the Worthy to wield it in battle. The Ebony Blade amplifies its power the unworthier its wielder is.
So when Dane Whitman focuses on his innate darkness (courtesy of his cursed lineage), he could grow hundreds, even thousands of times more powerful. When the Black Knight is pushed to his absolute limits, his weapon becomes a weapon of mass destruction. Not even Ragnarok Thor could beat that.

Thor And Black Knight Have Fought In The Comics – Black Knight Won That Round
In Black Knight: Curse Of The Ebony Blade #3, a flashback sequence takes us to Camelot, the Arthurian Castle and Court, seat of King Arthur’s power. Thor Odinson led a group of Viking Warriors into battle against the Knights of King Arthur led by Black Knight. As Thor kept taunting the Black Knight as weak, the latter started loathing himself, filling himself with rage and self-hatred. Little did Thor know that the Ebony Blade was powered by negative emotions.
Thor rattled Black Knight’s chains so much that the Ebony Blade released a powerful blast that knocked out the God of Thunder. Thor Odinson of that period in the comic books was a hundred times more powerful than MCU’s Ragnarok Thor.
The Odinson got lucky because the Ebony Blade usually consumes the souls of its victims. That incident in Camelot could have been the very end of the Norse God of Thunder. But will the MCU Thor be that lucky if he ever faces the Black Knight and the Ebony Blade in combat?
