James Cameron’s 1997 blockbuster, Titanic, went through several casting conflicts. While the Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet was desperate to play the role of Rose in the movie, The Young and the Restless actor, Eric Braeden was considering leaving the film, as he believed that Cameron was hard to work with. Despite so many conflicts and confusion, he finally accepted the offer and starred as the richest man on the ship, John Jacob Astor IV, in Titanic and has not held back in speaking highly of the filmmaker.
He also did not hold back when his former co-star Eva Longoria made disrespectful comments about the popular soap opera The Young and the Restless. Her comments regarding the show made the 82-year-old actor defend the show on social media.
Kate Winslet’s Co-Star Defended His Popular Soap Opera
Sometimes actors have to take on some extra job to pay the bills as it is usually hard to land a well-paid role during the initial years of their career. Eva Longoria, who started her acting career in the early 2000s, has also shared that she worked as a headhunter while starring on CBS daytime soap opera The Young and the Restless.
During a conversation with Chris Wallace, the actress shared that she did not want her clients to find out that she was an actress. Longoria believed that it would make them think of her as a “dumb actress handling their accounts.” Eric Braeden, who starred as Victor Newman in the show, was offended by her comments and has shared his disagreements on Twitter.
He called her out for her “derogatory” remarks about daytime actors. He further went on to criticize the actress, saying that she was not good enough to survive the medium. He also stated that many legendary actors started with the same medium that she despised.
“From Robert di Nero to whoever they all are, many of them started in the medium you denigrate! It shows a complete lack of class!!” he said in his tweets. People also shared their opinions on the same as some supported Kate Winslet‘s Titanic co-star, and others claimed that her statement was non-offensive.
Eric Braeden Almost Left James Cameron’s Titanic
Eric Braeden portrayed the character of John Jacob Astor IV, the richest man on the ship in James Cameron’s 1997 film Titanic. However, he almost lost the movie due to several misconceptions about his role and the film’s director.
During an interview with The Talk, he shared that he believed that it “wasn’t that big enough of a role.” Another thing that kept him from accepting the offer initially was James Cameron’s reputation. “The driver who picked me up at the airport said, ‘Are you ready to work with the biggest a** in the business…?” he recalled.
The actor also stated that he was told the same thing by the wardrobe person as well. While he did have some misconceptions, he later realized that none of it was true. Cameron also told him that he was a big fan of Braeden’s 1970 sci-fi disaster, Colossus: The Forbin Project.
