Even a decade after its release, Henry Cavill holds Man of Steel close to his heart, the film one of his most prized possessions. From collaborating with Zack Snyder to depicting the emblem of hope on-screen, everything about the DC film holds remarkable significance for the British actor. But for all the valuable experiences and unforgettable memories he gained from the project, Cavill bestowed just as much of himself in return to the film after putting in his blood, sweat, and tears, to become Superman.
Becoming Superman: Henry Cavill’s Unrivaled Devotion to Man of Steel
Henry Cavill is a man of many talents, but unlike his impeccable acting skills which ooze out from him like second nature, he’s had to work extremely hard for his body that makes everyone drool. All that Herculean muscle didn’t build itself after all. But he also sacrificed a lot in the process, especially for achieving his stellar Superman physique. Perhaps that’s why it was also the toughest aspect of the entirety of the 2013 film.
From excruciating diets and arduous workouts, the Justice League star burned the candle at both ends for his terrific Superman abs that he proudly flaunted in Man of Steel. While he’d been on a vigorous training regime way before filming commenced for the Zack Snyder project, Cavill had to go the extra mile for two specific scenes in the film wherein he had to go shirtless. He certainly had his work cut out for him, especially with his complete refusal for utilizing any steroids or digital enhancements which only made him push his body beyond its limits.
He cut down his calorie intake from 5000-1500 for almost six lengthy weeks, after which he attained a body fat level of top-notch professional bodybuilders – an unimaginable 7%. The Witcher star’s sole intention of pushing himself to such seemingly impossible realms was to make his muscles and abs as defined and toned as he could without any embellishments whatsoever. And his hard work certainly paid off after fans couldn’t stop gushing about his dashing Superman form, which frankly, they do even today.
Snyder wasn’t heartless though, he made it a point to reward Cavill with copious amounts of ice cream and pizza for all his unyielding dedication. Now that’s a sure-shot win.
Henry Cavill’s Godlike Superman Transformation
The Dawn of Justice star’s intense workout regimen was more than just the stringent diets and grueling workouts, it consisted of an array of other aspects including jiu-jitsu lessons from a world champion and as incongruous as it may sound, a good night’s sleep. Turns out you need to have at least 9-10 hours of decent sleep in order to get ripped like the fan-favorite Superman.
It’s also worth noting that building the perfect body meant Cavill had to abandon the luxury of comfort or convenience that most gyms usually offer because the gym he worked out at was none other than the famous, Gym Jones. An invite only gym, it is as exclusive as one could imagine it to be and has served as a haven for some of the most high-profile entities including professional athletes and military personnel. Not to mention, Mark Twight, the founder of Gym Jones, was the one training Cavill at the time. No wonder his workouts seemed something straight out of a nightmare. But at least his relentless efforts came into fruition.
