James Gunn’s DCU plans have intrigued fans and general audiences alike ever since he revealed his initial 10 project slate at the end of January. With The Flash rumored to mark the end of the DCEU, everyone is excited to know who’s going to play DCU’s premiere hero- Superman.
Apart from the man of steel himself, there’s unbridled interest on social media about the actors who will end up playing the supporting cast like Lois Lane, Lex Luthor, Jonathan Kent, and more. In fact, speculation and rumors have already begun. But Gunn isn’t taking kindly to the accounts spreading fake news.
James Gunn Slams Account For Spreading Blatantly Fake Lex Luthor Rumors
DC Studios’ co-CEO James Gunn has a no-tolerance policy when it comes to nonsensical rumors. On Twitter, he often takes great joy in debunking them. The director again did that when one fan alerted him to a DCU Leaks Twitter account spreading rumors about Thomas Haden Church being cast as Superman’s father, Jonathan Kent, in Superman: Legacy.
The account wrote, “Thomas Haden Church has been cast as Jonathan ‘Pa’ Kent in Superman: Legacy. Filming will begin in January 2024. #DCStudios.” To this, the Guardians of the Galaxy director replied:
“Everything that handle posts is untrue. The fact they don’t allow replies should be a giveaway. But I love Tom who played my older brother in The Specials in 1999!”

Gunn’s frustration is understandable. After all, The Hollywood Reporter’s article stating that actors like David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult are up for the roles of Superman and Lex Luthor made bells go off in the fandom. Other accounts then began getting on the trend to get some traction for their made-up news. But this isn’t the only time this particular account ended up upsetting Gunn.
James Gunn Lashes Out At DC Fan Account For Targeting Margot Robbie
There has been a lot of online chatter about which previous DCEU actors will jump over to James Gunn’s DCU and which ones won’t. We already know that actors like Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, and Dwayne Johnson have not made the cut. But there’s rampant speculation regarding the fate of actors like Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, and Margot Robbie.
Robbie played Harley Quinn in DC projects like Suicide Squad, Birds of Prey, and The Suicide Squad. And fans desperately want to know if she will stay in the DCU, especially after rumors about her apparently accepting the role of MCU’s Sue Storm in the upcoming Fantastic Four film.
The DCU Leaks account again took advantage of this public confusion to give their own theorized spin on things. The account tweeted:
“Margot Robbie is no longer Harley Quinn moving forward. The DCU will have a different actress as Harley Quinn. @JamesGunn deleted his tweet about potentially working with Robbie again after he found out she had signed to join the MCU. Her contract states no more DCU projects.”
But Gunn wasn’t having it. He replied saying:
“Dude, why do you just keep posting lies? Sometimes they’re just stupid made-up stuff. But other times, making up bulls*it like this about people I care about, can be hurtful. Maybe you’re having a difficult time in life & lying for attention is how you get solace. But please find a better way.”

The account then apologized to the DC boss and stated that they will do better. But even then the person running the account quite shamelessly asked if some of their tweets are right. Gunn didn’t take the bait and retorted that he doesn’t think any kind of lying is right.
It’s clear that more such incidents will keep on happening till The Suicide Squad director announces the actual official cast of Superman: Legacy. It now remains to be seen which actors ultimately make the cut.
Superman: Legacy will hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
