“Low key I think we might actually be getting these”: Fans of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Request Seemingly Obvious Gameplay Mechanic

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is nearly upon us, and as well as a constant stream of news, both official and leaks, as with any AAA game, fans are taking it upon themselves to suggest and request features that they want to see in the final game.

This time around, fans of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 request something that on retrospect, should have been implemented in the first game, given the hardware at hand at the time, and certainly should be in the upcoming sequel, considering the power of the PlayStation 5.

Gamers are a notoriously fickle bunch, as are comic book readers/lovers. Put these two groups together and you get one of the most demanding fanbases out there, as some developers of failed superhero video games will attest to.

With the release of Marvel’s Spider-Man in 2018, Insomniac Games more than stuck the landing, pleasing critics and fans alike and raising the bar for what is considered to be a great superhero video game. The semi-sequel/spinoff Miles Morales added to this, and now we find ourselves here, a few months out of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 releasing, and with it, fan fervour is at huge level.

Over on Reddit, the SpiderManPS4 subreddit is full of threads discussing new theories, spotted easter eggs and gameplay wishes. One such Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 request is a gameplay mechanic that would not only be incredibly cool to witness in real time, but also increase immersion of the Webhead’s world.

The game shown on the post is the much maligned The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which for the most part was received as well as the accompanying film it released beside. However, the context sensitive environmental stealth takedowns was one of the few gameplay mechanics it excelled at.

In Marvel’s Spider-Man and its spinoff there is the environmental takedowns, which can be triggered using the environment to dispatch enemies during combat, but actually using the environment to stealth takedown enemies is something unfortunately absent in the game.

The upcoming sequel’s gameplay trailer shown at the PlayStation Showcase does hint at the inclusion of this, or some form of it, with Spider-Man using a wall to prop up an enemy whilst he proceeds to repeatedly kick them, but as we all know, cinematics very rarely fully represent the final gameplay product.

All that aside though, whether this mechanic ends up being in the finished game or not, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is looking like it’ll be the release of the year, alongside Xbox exclusive Starfield, but what do you make of this request? Would it further immerse you? Would you even notice it? Do you not care? Let us know in the comments!
