“Look like a regular person”: Henry Cavill Was Criticized For His Physique, Forced To Gain Weight Despite Losing James Bond Role Earlier For Being “Chubby”

Henry Cavill was once told he was too chubby to play James Bond. Bet they are eating their words now, for the actor has transformed himself into a hunk of a man. Ever since he was rejected from the iconic franchise, Cavill has gone on to play characters that require him to be in perfect shape, except for one.

After Immortals, he was offered a film along with Bruce Willis where he was told to shed his physique, look normal, and eat a lot. His experience led him to realize that no matter what, he won’t sacrifice his shape for any role ever again.

Henry Cavill stands out from the crowd. His physique, massive height, and mannerism always single him out. This was a problem for the makers of The Cold Light of Day. Henry Cavill had just finished with Immortals and was in excellent shape, but his shape would have made his character stand out, which the makers weren’t keen on doing. They wanted Cavill to at least try to blend in and look like a regular person

“I had to get out of shape for the job in between [Immortals and Man of Steel] – The Cold Light of Day. My brief for that was, ‘Look like a regular person, you look too fit. No push-ups, no sit-ups, just eat pizza and burgers and drink beer.'”

And Cavill did just that to play a civilian turned hero. However, his efforts to transform himself into a normal person weren’t worth too much since the film performed miserably at the box office. His transformation and failure of the film made him realize he would never again sacrifice his physique for any role.

Henry Cavill’s The Cold Light of Day was a disaster at the box office. Despite having stars like Bruce Willis, the film was a failure due to its confusing storyline, and bland screenplay, and was even regarded as ‘stupid’ by the audience and critics.

Perhaps it was the film’s failure or that his efforts had gone in vain that made the Man of Steel star realize that he had done a terrible job by losing his well-toned physique.

“As everything starts to soften up, you’re going, ‘Oh no, all that hard work I just wasted.’ I’m now in shape again. I got [my muscle definition] back and I plan on not losing it. I don’t care what they offer me.”

Looks like he took the vow to his heart, for since that day Cavill has never been seen out of shape.

The Cold Light of Day is available to stream on HBO.
