Making his MCU debut with the 2011 film Captain America: The First Avenger, Chris Evans has been featured in more than ten Marvel movies. The actor has gained worldwide recognition as Steve Rogers, and fans can’t imagine someone else as the Marvel superhero. And there is a thing that has not only caught the attention of the fans but also of the MCU actor’s co-star. The 2019 film Avengers: Endgame features a scene where Ant-Man says that Captain America has “America’s As*.”
And the conversation was also happening behind the camera, as the Vision actor Paul Bettany shared during an interview that one of the Marvel stars competed against Evans to claim his title.
Chris Evans And Anthony Mackie Competed For the Title
Marvel star Paul Bettany recalled the squat-jumping competition that happened between the Captain America actors Chris Evans and Anthony Mackie. He shared that the two actually competed to find out who was worthy of claiming the title of “America’s As*” while filming for Avengers: Endgame.
This led to a squat jumping competition, where both of them had to “jump over this thing.” And the WandaVision star believed that The Banker star would easily beat Evans. “Mackie went, ‘I’m gonna beat you! What are you talking about?” Bettany shared.
He then went to the Gifted actor, telling him that Mackie might actually beat him in the competition. “I went to Chris, ‘Dude, he’s gonna beat you. Look at the size of his as*! He’s got more muscle in his as* cheeks than I have in my entire body,” he told Evans. However, his intuition turned out to be wrong as Evans beat Mackie in the competition.

Paul Bettany’s Intuition About Anthony Mackie Proved Wrong
Talking to KFC Radio, Paul Bettany appeared to be supportive of Anthony Mackie or claiming the title of “America’s as*.” However, Chris Evans ended up beating The Falcon and the Winter Soldier star as he was able to “squat jump just from standing.”
Bettany called it “unbelievable.” But he still believes that Mackie also has an amazing as*. “Chris beat him…That’s, unfortunately, the truth. But aesthetically? Anthony has an amazing as*,” he said during his interview. While Mackie might not have been able to claim the title, he would be taking over his Marvel title in his next MCU feature, Captain America: Brave New World.
He has described the opportunity to portray the iconic Marvel character as “extremely emotional.” Mackie shared that it’s a monumental step not only in entertainment but also in his life and career.
Avengers: Endgame is streaming on Disney+.
Captain America: Brave New World is set to release on 26 July 2024.
