We know that the costume is the defining trait of a comic book superhero — and MCU superheroes have the most unique and stylish costumes to their names. No doubt, MCU has designed some of the best costumes so far, and they look as if these outfits have their own fashion runway every week.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has brought hundreds of Marvel Comics’ best heroes and villains to life on the big screen with cutting-edge storylines, special effects, and, of course, — cool superhero costumes.
And because of these Superhero costumes, which have been a cornerstone of the genre since its inception, the characters come to life in style.
But there is a superhero who didn’t like his own costume? And it’s our very own Captain America, Chris Evans, who wasn’t sold on the idea that his character has the best superhero outfit in the Avengers gang — but the actor had his reasons.
Chris Evans Reveals Captain America’s Costume Isn’t His Favorite
Cap’s suit has seen everything- from the rugged, military-inspired look in The First Avenger to the bright and bold changes in the following films. It is brighter and darker, with a lot of shield-slinging action in between.
Captain America’s style may have evolved in the eight MCU movies, but his unwavering commitment to justice and that trusty vibranium shield remain constant. That’s what makes him a true icon.
But Chris Evans admitted that Captain America’s costume isn’t his favorite among the Avengers. In a video feature with LADbible TV, the star sits down with Taika Waititi, the mastermind behind Thor: Love and Thunder, to have “the internet’s biggest debates” — and what was the hot topic? — whether Captain America has the best suit of any superhero. But Evans, being the humble superhero he is, disagrees right away, saying:
“It’s the suit for him, and it works for him, but if we’re measuring against all the Avengers, let’s be honest. It’s not the best. S–t, they’re all better than mine. Whether it’s Scarlett [Johansson], whether it’s Chris [Hemsworth], whether it’s Tom Holland…”
Chris Evans’ comments were ironic, but let’s be honest. Among the Avengers, Captain America’s outfit can easily come across as campy. Surely, Captain America is all about patriotism and moral principles, and the suit perfectly fits that theme, but Evans believes he’s basically a walking, talking American flag.
Chris Evans’ Captain America Costume’s Evolution Over the Years
Tony Stark’s nanotech suit in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame is like the Swiss Army knife of superhero outfits. Need a weapon? It’s got you covered. Need to look sharp for a gala event? It can do that, too. Plus, it’s more practical than any of his other suits.
But few superhero costumes like Captain America are as symbolic and legendary (the star-spangled Avenger who ended up on ice for 60+ years). The character has been a symbol of peace, hope, and justice right from the beginning, representing the ideals of his country.
Captain America’s costume has had some serious upgrades in recent years. His first costume in The Avengers (2012) looked like something you’d find at a costume shop. But they really leveled it up — making it both classic and ready, sporting high-end battle gear.
