The trailer of Martin Scorsese’s upcoming crime drama featuring stars like Leonardo DiCaprio, Lily Gladstone, and Robert De Niro was recently released by Apple TV+. Based on David Grann’s best-selling 2017 book Killers of the Flower Moon, the film follows the murder investigation of members of the Osage Native American tribe in Oklahoma during the 1920s. The film brings back the iconic duo of Scorsese and DiCaprio and promises a devastating thriller.

Gladstone, who is portraying the character of Mollie Burkhart, an Osage woman married to a white man, Ernest Burkhart [Leonardo DiCaprio], is set to join the cast of the film for its world premiere at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. And the actress shared during her recent interview that she almost left acting before getting the offer for the upcoming Martin Scorsese film.

Lily Gladstone Almost Quit Her Acting Career

Getting her breakout role with the 2016 film Certain Women, Lily Gladstone has been in the industry for over a decade. She is set to appear alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in the upcoming Martin Scorsese film Killers of the Flower Moon. The actress, however, started looking out for opportunities outside Hollywood as she began to doubt the sustainability of her acting career.

Lily Gladstone, during her recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Gladstone recalled registering for a data analytics course and planned to apply for a seasonal job at the Department of Agriculture. She said, “So I had my credit card out, registering for a data analytics course.”

The First Cow actress, who shared that she has a special interest in bees, planned to track murder hornets. As she was about to fill out the registration, she received a notification from the Oscar-winning director for a Zoom meeting.

The director was highly impressed with her work in the 2016 film Certain Women and wanted to cast her as Millie Burkhart in the film adaptation of David Grann’s book. Scorsese has reportedly been working on the film soon after the release of the book after Imperative Entertainment acquired the rights for its film adaptation in 2016.

Lily Gladstone Was Nervous Around Leonardo DiCaprio

Lily Gladstone stars alongside Oscar winners Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro in Killers of the Flower Moon. Sharing her experience working with the actors, Gladstone said that she was very nervous during the first few takes of the film.

The Fancy Dancers star shared, “Leo was kind of poking my ribs about that for the first few days. But in a very sweet, self-aware, tongue-in-cheek way.” And soon, she was able to get comfortable around her co-stars. The Inception star also shared that Gladstone has an incredible “presence and strength.”

He praised his co-star for doing proper research on her character for months. DiCaprio shared that Lily Gladstone studied everything about Mollie Burkhart, her relationship with her husband, and her legacy within the Osage community, and even became a source of guidance for the film’s cast and director.
