Actor Angus Cloud, well known for his role as Euphoria‘s beloved Fezco, has passed away at the age of 25, his family confirmed. Born Conor Angus Cloud Hickey, he went to Oakland School of the Arts with Euphoria co-star Zendaya.
Cloud’s kind and friendly personality won over a large number of fans, and he will be deeply missed as he represented what someone from humble beginnings could accomplish. He was recently cast opposite Melissa Berrera in a new horror film at Universal Pictures from Scream 6 directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.
The Actor Struggled after the Death of His Father
While confirming Angus Cloud‘s death, his family issued a statement via TMZ,
“It is with the heaviest heart that we had to say goodbye to an incredible human today. As an artist, a friend, a brother, and a son, Angus was special to all of us in so many ways. Last week he buried his father and intensely struggled with this loss. The only comfort we have is knowing Angus is now reunited with his dad, who was his best friend. Angus was open about his battle with mental health and we hope that his passing can be a reminder to others that they are not alone and should not fight this on their own in silence.”
The statement continued,
“We hope the world remembers him for his humor, laughter, and love for everyone. We ask for privacy at this time as we are still processing this devastating loss.”
Police say the cause of death is unknown at this point and have launched an investigation.
Tributes are pouring in for the actor, with HBO writing:
“We are incredibly saddened to learn of the passing of Angus Cloud. He was immensely talented and a beloved part of the HBO and Euphoria family. We extend our deepest condolences to his friends and family during this difficult time.”
Cloud always seemed to keep the fame and glamor at a distance, even after becoming a fan favorite on the popular HBO series.
Angus Cloud Was Surprised by His Own Success
Fez marked Cloud’s first appearance on TV. After being approached by a casting director on the streets of New York City, the actor was offered the role. He stated that he didn’t really have any hopes of getting the part—or any acting role, for that matter. In 2019, Cloud, a former employee at a “chicken and waffle joint,” told GQ magazine that a casting representative had stopped him on a Manhattan street.
“I was confused and I didn’t want to give her my phone number,” Cloud told the magazine. “I thought it was a scam.”
When Euphoria took off, Cloud said he was surprised by his own success.
“The difference between me and everyone else who’s famous it’s that they were trying to go get famous, for the most part,” he told the publication. “They were working hard, and they were like, ‘I’m going to make it to the top’. For me, it was just like too good of an opportunity to say no to. I had no idea it would go this far.”
Addressing his newfound fame, Cloud added:
“I don’t like people noticing me on the street. I’m really paranoid. I feel like I’m always looking over my shoulder. I do always show love to people who approach me, but some people just run up and just shove their phone in my face. Dude, I’m not a clown at a carnival.”
“When people are like, ‘It must be so easy! You get to go in and be yourself.’ I’m like, ‘Why don’t you go and do that?’ It’s not that simple. I brought a lot to the character. You can believe what you want. It ain’t got nothing to do with me.”
The actor, who was born in 1998, is survived by his mother, a younger brother, and twin sisters.
