Kevin Feige has finally shared his thoughts on James Gunn joining the DC Studios as co-CEO. James Gunn has recently joined DC Studios, which was earlier known as DC Films. Warner Bros have been looking for the right person to lead DC films for a while now. After the former head Walter Hamada, officially left the production company earlier this month, the studio started searching for a suitable candidate to take over Hamada. The studio announced that James Gunn and Producer Peter Safran would be the new heads of DC Studio.
The Suicide Squad director will focus on creativity, and producer Safran will keep hold of production and business. They will assume the title of the co-chairs and co-CEOs of the studio. DC Studios is the new division at Warner Bros, which will replace DC Films.
Kevin Feige Says He is Excited to See James Gunn’s Work in DC
James Gunn has expressed his excitement about his new role at DC Studios. The Guardians of the Galaxy director had signed a four-year deal with the studio. However, Gunn is still engaged with the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3, which is scheduled to release on 5 May 2023.
The four-year deal could also mean that Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 could be his last Marvel film. Kevin Feige has recently shared his thoughts on James Gunn taking the lead for DC films.
While talking to The Hollywood Reporter at the world premiere of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Kevin Feige shared that he is very excited to see Gunn’s work with DC. Kevin Feige did not forget to mention that the director still has Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, which will be coming out in May next year.
“I speak to James almost every day. We have a wonderful thing called the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special coming out. We have a wonderful thing called Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 coming out in May,” Kevin Feige said.
The Marvel Studio head also said that he has no idea how Gunn would have any time to work with DC until May, but once he does so, Feige would be the first to see it.
Why do Fans Believe James Gunn is the Right Person to Lead DC Films?
After Marvel Studios removed James Gunn from Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3, Warner Bros hired him to work for Suicide Squad. The film became a huge success for DC. It received a 90% score on Rotten Tomatoes, and the Brightburn creator then worked on a spin-off series of the 2021 film called Peacemaker.
Until Peacemaker, Gunn was known for working with multiple varied characters and bringing them together with a common goal. However, with Peacemaker, the director proved that he is capable of working on a sole character as well.
Reports also revealed that movies including Joker and The Batman would not follow the lead of the Scooby-Doo director. It led many to believe that the Scooby-Doo director would only work on DCEU films. Shazam: Fury of Gods (March 17, 2023), The Flash (June 23, 2023), Blue Beetle (August 18, 2023), and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (December 25, 2023) are the upcoming DCEU films.
James Gunn is also working on the second season of Peacemaker. However, there is no confirmed release date for season 2.
Peacemaker Season 1 is available to stream on HBO Max. Peacemaker Season 2 is expected to release in late 2023 or early 2024 on HBO Max.
