While the Internet may treat him as a real-life superhero, Keanu Reeves is yet to play a mainstream superhero in any franchise. However, the actor does have a preference, and it seems like he is on the lookout to grab Hugh Jackman’s iconic role.

With the amount of global fame the actor possesses, it is still surprising that actor Keanu Reeves has not yet been cast in any of the films in the MCU or DCU. While Reeves had a short stint as John Constantine in the supernatural thriller Constantine, the film was not part of any of the connected universes that are in the works today.

However, the John Wick star recently revealed that he dreamt of wanting to play one particular superhero on the big screen. When the actor was asked on a Reddit thread about which role he had regretted turning down, he said,

“…No…but I did always want to play Wolverine.”

The actor resonated the same sentiment a few years ago in an interview with BuzzFeed Celeb.  When asked by a fan which role he would like to play in either Marvel or DC comics, the actor replied,

“I do not know. When I was a kid, I always wanted to play Wolverine…So, Wolverine.”

Reeves had also once mentioned that he wanted to play the character of Ghost Rider, which was ultimately played by Nicolas Cage. While the actor had never been considered for the role when Bryan Singer started developing his X-Men franchise, fans were eagerly waiting for Reeves to be considered after Wolverine actor Hugh Jackman bid farewell to the character in 2017.

After playing the iconic character for seventeen years, Hugh Jackman announced in 2017 that he would be retiring from the role of Wolverine after James Mangold’s Logan. The film was a fitting farewell to the iconic character who had been in almost all films of the X-Men franchise. The first X-Men film was the actor’s American debut after he was recommended by fellow Australian actor Russell Crowe.

When Disney acquired Fox in 2019, fans were excited to see the X-Men finally be depicted in the MCU. Many fans recommended multiple actors for Jackman’s replacement. However, Kingsman star Taron Egerton seemed to be in the race to play Logan. The actor mentioned that he had a meeting with MCU mastermind Kevin Feige, where they discussed the possibility. He said,

“I’d be excited but I’d be apprehensive as well because Hugh is so associated with the role that I’d wonder if it’d be very difficult for someone else to do it. But hopefully, if it does come around, they’ll give me a shot.”

Last year, Hugh Jackman announced that he would be returning to the role of Logan along with Ryan Reynolds in the upcoming film Deadpool 3. The actor said that he would be reprising the role one more time and then leaving it open for a new actor to fill in his shoes. While no casting has been announced yet, the fans are eagerly awaiting to see Jackman don the claws again.
