Justice League: Warworld, Featuring Jensen Ackles as Batman, Officially Rated R

Along with bringing legendary superheroes to life on screen, DC has pioneered a spree of animated films that have gained cult status among fans and viewers. While comic book adaptations are technically known to draw in families with people of all ages relating to its content, the DCAU has stood apart for its deeper, more intense themes, mainly suited for an adult audience.

The latest animated feature to come out of the DC camp will be Justice League: Warworld which will be the 7th installment in the critically acclaimed Tomorrowverse series. Its predecessor, Justice League: Legion Of Super-Heroes, featured an enticing post-credit scene that set up the film’s future. Another interesting piece of information involves a famous television star who will reprise his role as the voice of Batman.

Jensen Ackles Returns As Batman in R-rated Justice League: Warworld

DC has always been known to push the envelope with regard to darker and more intense themes through their world of animation. Their latest upcoming animated film, Justice League: Warworld, which will release in July, has been rated R for violence and bloodshed. This makes it the second film in DC and Warner Brothers Animation’s Tomorrowverse to carry an R rating, following 2021’s Batman: The Long Halloween, Part 2.

Among the cast who will voice the characters, Supernatural star Jensen Ackles was officially announced to reprise the role of Batman/Officer Wayne after his presence in Parts 1 and 2 of Batman: The Long Halloween. The animation will also feature other prominent stars including Stana Katic as Wonder Woman/Diana Prince and Darren Criss as Superman/Agent Kent. The film is expected to feature brutal gladiatorial combat with Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman teaming up with other heroes to free the planet from a deadly resistance.

Jensen Ackles Has A History With Batman And The DC Animated Universe

Justice League: Warworld will see popular television actor Jensen Ackles return to voice the role of Batman. Ackles has a long history with DC animated films, dating back to his acclaimed performance as Jason Todd/Red Hood in the 2010 standalone feature Batman: Under the Red Hood. The actor then moved up the ranks to land the marquee role of one of DC’s most celebrated heroes in the two-part animated feature, Batman: The Long Halloween.

Ackles continued to voice Batman in the next film Justice League: Legion of Super-Heroes. The Supernatural star also nearly landed his first live-action gig as Batman in CW’s television series Gotham Knights but ultimately did not take up the project due to his other creative commitments at the time. The opportunity subsequently went to David Alexander Miller while Ackles’ Supernatural co-star Misha Collins was roped in to play Harvey Dent.
