The recently released trailer of Challengers, Zendaya’s latest movie directed by Luca Guadagnino showed clips of steamy hotel room scenes and lingering glances, which led fans to believe there would likely be lots of s*x scenes in the film.
Zendaya, the star of the film, has spoken out about the s*xual tone of the sports comedy-drama following its trailer release. The crew claims that the s*x scenes aren’t exactly what they seem to be.
Zendaya Opened up about the S*xual Tone of Challengers
Directed by the fabulous Luca Guadagnino, this sports drama follows the stunning Tashi Duncan, played by Zendaya, a former tennis pro turned coach, who prepares her husband Art Donaldson (Mike Faist) for a challenger event against her ex-boyfriend and his old best friend Patrick (Josh O’Connor).
The trio’s dynamic is exceedingly complicated. Tashi reminisces about a moment from their earlier days and then she enjoys both Art and Patrick kissing her, as they all share a hotel room.
However, Zendaya stated that all of them were patient and really helpful to make it a comfortable scene. Zendaya said:
“Just being committed to the work, and holding space for each other, and being patient with each other, and just being really helpful, and just being in those rooms, and just talking shit through – I think it ultimately led to being in a space where we could just be like, ‘All right, let’s play.'”
The scenes in the film, according to Zendaya, focused on building tension and expressing s*xuality and desire in a different way.
Her co-star Josh O’Connor stated that the entire s*xual tension in the movie actually happens on the tennis court.
“The tennis is the sex. Those moments are so sexy, ” Josh O’Connor explained. “The film is dealing with the tension before and after. The sex they’re all desperate for is on the court.”
Challengers was initially slated to make its debut at the Venice Film Festival at the end of August and hit theaters in September.
However, distributors MGM confirmed the film’s release would be postponed due to the SAG-AFTRA strike.

Beyond the success they have experienced on-screen, Tom Holland and Zendaya have won over admirers all around the world with their off-screen romance.
In the film, Zendaya plays the starring role of a successful teenage tennis player alongside Mike Faist and John O’Connor. The main characters are shown having a threesome in the trailer, which unsurprisingly sparked a flurry of fan-created memes on social media.
