Many Hollywood celebrities prefer not to see their own movies, and Marvel Studios’ Jonathan Majors is one of them. The actor who played Kang the Conqueror admitted not watching the Disney+ series Loki despite the amount of praise his performance has received. The series also became the most-watched show on the platform.
Kang the Conqueror will now take the crown as the most terrifying villain after Thanos, and his appearance in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is highly anticipated. But, it seems that Majors will not be seated amongst the audience when the movie premieres next year.
Why Jonathan Majors Refuses To Watch His Own Movies
In an interview with Higher Learning, Majors shared that he does not like to watch his own performance and says it is “not my business.” This surprised many fans even though a lot of actors actually do refuse to watch their own movies. Some notable figures who opt not to see their films include Andrew Garfield, Tom Hanks, Johnny Depp, and Jared Leto, to name a few.
Despite many praises and positive reviews, Majors admits he tries to avert his eyes from the screen as much as possible. However, he does not entirely leave the set when his scenes are finished. Sometimes actors are required to do necessary post-production errands, and he needs to rewatch those filmed scenes.
“So I’ve seen that stuff, yeah. I mean, and I can just see a quick image and I’ll go, ‘Oh yeah, cool, cool.’ But I actually– I’m trying to avert my eyes as much as possible.”
The actor meant no disrespect to the director and the entire crew, and Majors admits to investing a lot of time and energy in the process. He would also check his friends on the screen.
“I told my directors like, ‘This is all I get,’ you know what I mean? That’s all I get. I’m not gonna watch your film. No disrespect, but I’m probably [not] gonna watch it after this… So, I mean… if my homies are on the screen, I’ll check it out.”
Majors confessed that this is the disadvantage of working with giant companies like Marvel Studios. He gets very anxious before the film comes out.
Majors Shows Dedication To His Work At Marvel Studios
Despite refusing to watch his performance, Majors assured fans that he is very committed to the role he plays. He wanted the character to leave an impact on the audience, just like other Marvel villains whose names are forever remembered in history.
The actor also shared that he did serious studying on how to better portray the villainous role. Now that Kang the Conqueror is the main antagonist, Majors is working hard to deliver an exemplary performance.
Jonathan Majors has received numerous praises from his co-workers, with one from Ant-Man 3’s Peyton Reed. The director said Majors can be likened to Marlon Brando, one of the most awarded actors in Hollywood.
Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will arrive in theaters on February 17, 2023.
