The Mandalorian season 3 is going to premiere in a little over a week, and fans of Grogu and Mando can’t wait to see what the duo have been up to. However, once the next season begins airing, fans are going to flood various Star Wars subreddits with questions about season 4 of the show. But executive producer Jon Favreau has said something that will put every Mandalorian fan’s mind to rest. However, his words will also make fans ask if he is trying to emulate the MCU.
Jon Favreau Talks About Working On The Mandalorian Season 4
During an interview with BFMTV, Jon Favreau revealed that he has completed writing season 4 of The Mandalorian. He mentions writing the season during the post-production of season 3. As for the rush, Favreau clarifies that it’s because he wants to tell a continuous and fully formed story. He says:
“Season 4? Yeah, I’ve written it already. We have to know where we’re going to tell a fully-formed story, so we had mapped it out, Dave and I, and then slowly you just right each episode. So I was writing it during post-production (on The Mandalorian Season 3) because all of it has to feel like a continuation, one full story.”
He further explains that there are a lot of details that they have to keep track of since a lot of the Star Wars shows are taking place in the same time period. As per the executive producer:
“He’s (Dave Filoni) doing Ahsoka, which I am producing with him, but he’s the writer and showrunner on that, so to understand what’s happening on other shows or even Skeleton Crew, all take place in the same Star Wars time period, so there are a lot more things we have to keep in mind and stuff that we built upto from previous seasons of The Mandalorian as well.”
It’s interesting that Favreau talks about doggedly maintaining continuity and making sure that even little things from shows like Ahsoka, The Mandalorian, and the rest add up. The actor and director could have been inspired to do this by Marvel Studios’ style of operations. After all, Favreau has been closely involved with the formation of the MCU. He has directed Iron Man and Iron Man 2 and has appeared as Happy Hogan in multiple MCU movies ranging from The Avengers to Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Jon Favreau Clarifies Why Grogu Chose Mando
In the second half of The Book of Boba Fett, we saw Grogu training with Luke Skywalker. But when the Jedi master tells Baby Yoda that he has to choose the Jedi life or being with Mando, the little creature chooses the latter. This decision was at the center of unending online debates and discussions among Star Wars fans. Now, Favreau has clarified why he went this route.

During an interview with Empire, the executive producer of The Mandalorian explained that the decision made sense because neither Mando nor Grogu was doing well without each other. Also, he expressed that bringing the duo back together restores the status quo for season 3. As per Favreau:
“You saw what Mando was like without Baby Yoda and we saw what Grogu was like without the Mandalorian and neither of them was doing too good. So them coming back together was a really good plot point that allows us to jump back into Season 3 while maintaining the central relationship.”
It will be interesting to see how season 3 progresses their relationship forward and what troubles await the duo.
The Mandalorian season 3 premieres on 1 March 2023.
