One of Hollywood’s most iconic actors, Johnny Depp is renowned for his repertoire of eclectic and peculiarly intriguing roles. Be it a whimsical pirate or a bizarre chocolatier, the actor who holds three Academy Award nominations, has always left the audience bedazzled by his on-screen performances.
Even after a harrowing legal battle and a number of missed opportunities, Depp continues to remain one of the most beloved actors in the industry. At the same time though, he might have just been the catalyst behind his own downfall.
Pirates of the Caribbean – Did Johnny Depp Ruin His Own Future?
Out of all the projects that he has embarked upon in his career spanning almost four decades, Pirates of the Caribbean takes the cake for being his most triumphant one. After his debut as the eccentric Captain Jack Sparrow in 2003’s The Curse of the Black Pearl, Johnny Depp went on to reprise the role in four more commercially successful sequels.
According to THR, when Pirates of the Caribbean 6 was being shot, Depp’s “excessive drinking” paired with his constant drama and fights with the Aquaman actress posed serious hindrances for both him as well as the movie. The whole thing apparently got so out of hand that it was deemed as a total “train wreck.” Depp’s issues were also reportedly the reason behind the movie facing numerous delays.
While Depp has been known to be a drinker, he’s never been called a raging alcoholic, at least not by anybody but his ex-wife who also alleged him to be a “drug addict.”
Will Johnny Depp Reprise His Role as Jack Sparrow?
The nasty and long-drawn court battle saw the Edward Scissorhands star emerge victorious against Heard and one can only imagine the regret Disney would be swimming in after that for dismissing perhaps one of its most valuable assets.
After the humiliation he was subjected to, Depp naturally refused to work with the studio again, claiming that he won’t be coming back for the sixth installment in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. But one can always hope, much like Jerry Bruckheimer, who strongly wishes for the Donnie Brasco star’s return.
“I would love to have him in the movie,” the producer told ET at the 95th Academy Awards about bringing Depp back for Pirates of the Caribbean 6. But only time will tell if the project materializes with the leading man that everyone has been rooting for.
