The verdict of the Amber Heard and Johnny Depp trial is on pause. After listening to the closing statements on May 27, the jury had the second day of deliberation on Tuesday after the Memorial Day Weekend. Over the period of seven weeks, Johnny Depp and Amber Heard had presented their side of the case.
A number of witnesses, too, took the stand to testify in support of either side. After listening to the arguments, statements, and proofs presented by both parties the jury is finally taking their time, discussing to come to a decision. Now, the verdict has been stalled again as the deliberation would continue on Wednesday. Judge Penny Azcarate would read the verdict when the jury finally reaches the decision.
The Verdict of the Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard trial stalled
There is a seven-person civil jury who has been watching the proceedings of the case. And now they have to decide the fate of the celebrities. After listening to the closing arguments they deliberated for two hours on Friday. After that, the judge adjourned the court for the long Memorial Day weekend. The Jury met at the court again on Tuesday and deliberated for 7 hours. But they haven’t reached a decision yet.
So, the deliberations would continue on Wednesday. In the closing arguments, both sides have said that winning this case would give them their life and career back. Johnny Depp has sued his ex-wife over an op-ed she wrote in the Wahington Post. The actor claims that the accusations against him are false and have destroyed his life. Now, as the actor’s fans are protesting against Amber Heard, she is losing roles too. Even a petition to remove her from the Aquaman sequel was signed by millions.
The closing argument controversy during the trial
Johnny Depp’s lawyer asked Judge Penny Azcarate to ignore a portion of Amber Heard’s lawyer’s closing statement. In his closing statement, Rottenborn said, “No matter how honest you are about your own imperfections and your own shortcomings in a relationship, you have to be perfect in order for people to believe you. Don’t send that message.”
In the written motion, it was suggested that it hints at a social cause and not what the case really seeks to decide. The actor’s lawyer said, “Such argument by Ms. Heard’s counsel improperly invites the jury to decide the case ‘based on passion and prejudice’ and a specific jury instruction is necessary to cure this impropriety.”
The judge told Depp’s lawyer that the motion cannot be entertained by her as the case is in the jury’s hands now. The world awaits what the jury would decide now.
