Johnny Depp has had his fair share of experience when it comes to the ups and downs of a court trial. The defamation trial with Amber Heard was draining on both of them but the actor fought extensively for his life and reputation to be given back to him. The trial lasted a long time and it being televised live put both their personal lives exposed for the world to see.
It managed to dig out the deepest and darkest truths of both Heard and Depp. The trial was won in the end by The Tourist actor, however, it was far from his first legal battle. There had been an instance where even though his personal life was perhaps being affected by Amber Heard’s doings, his financial issues were only rising.
Johnny Depp Sued His Management Firm For Spending His Money
Johnny Depp was fully exposed in front of the court during his trial, leaving no stone unturned for the media to wonder if something was hidden. One aspect that surfaced and was heavily focused on was the actor’s tendency to spend a lot. His previous management firm even showed up during the trial to testify for the same. However, it was even before the trial ever began that Depp had actually sued the firm for cheating him with his money.
The actor sued his Financial Manager as well as the firm he worked for, The Management Group for tampering with his money. He sued them in 2017, the same year his divorce from Amber Heard was finalized. He demanded $25 Million from them in return and the lawsuit even escalated to a trial. This was because the firm too put a counter-lawsuit against the actor. The matter was settled only a month before the trial was set to begin.
Johnny Depp Allegedly Spent $75 Million On 14 Homes
The Management Firm went on to claim that Johnny Depp was in charge of spending his own money and allegedly he spent $75 Million on 14 homes, $18 Million on a yacht, and $4 Million on a record label that ultimately failed.
“[Johnny Depp] often responded by rebuking and cursing his business managers for issuing [warnings and advice], while increasing his extravagant lifestyle and spending, and demanding that his business managers find some way to pay for it all.”
This was a counter against Depp when he sued Joel Mandel and the firm after seventeen years of them working together. This ultimately did not work out even though the claims kept rising again and again about his rising expenses and wine consumption.
