Following Henry Cavill’s departure from DC and Netflix’s The Witcher, many fans have wondered what is next stored in for the actor. Cavill, in fact, has better news to serve, and perhaps his departure from the Netflix series and DC was for the best.
Cavill will not have enough space to sit idle, rather he is set to be busy in reportedly two major franchises. Perhaps, new doors to his career opened. Cavill was already confirmed for Amazon’s Warhammer 40K series, but now he is at the top of the ladder for the lead in another big franchise.
John Wick Director Gave Major Update on Highlander Reboot
Chad Stahelski, director of the highly successful franchise John Wick, recently revealed the possibility of the Highlander Reboot. The original Highlander came out in 1986 as director Russell Mulcahy established the action-adventure fantasy movie that later expanded into a universe. The reboot, however, would not inherently follow a similar plotline, rather it would justify the previous movies and TV shows and other elements as prequels. Speaking to Josh Horowitz on his Happy Sad Confused podcast, Stahelski gave a major update on the reboot:
“I think we have some very good elements now. The trick is when you have the tagline ‘there can only be one’, you can’t just kill everybody the first time. I’ll say it for you first, our story engages a lot of the same characters and stuff like that, but we’ve also brought in elements of all the TV shows, and we’re trying to do a bit of a prequel, a setup to The Gathering, so we have room to grow the property.”
It is highly unlikely for the new reboot to follow the original fantasy in terms of style and theme. As the director is great at landscaping the modern world on screen, he might incorporate the modern world and make it a modern tragedy.
Henry Cavill Joined the Highlander Reboot
The speculation of the Highlander reboot has been in circulation for over a decade now. The Lionsgate movie later considered a lot of directors but Stahelski is the most recent confirmation. As per reports, Superman star Henry Cavill joined the project to lead the movie playing the iconic Connor MacLeod. Revealing the news, Cavill once took to his Instagram to share his special moment after being cast in the 1986 cult-classic reboot.
“Very exciting news today! I’ve been a fan of Highlander since I was lad,” Cavill captioned. “From the movies in all of their 80s, Queen slathered glory to the TV show with an actor who looked remarkably like one of my brothers.”
He further added,
“Being not shy with swords, and having a director as talented as Chad Stahelski at the helm, this is an opportunity like no other. Deep diving into franchise storytelling with all the tools at our disposal, is going to make this an adventure I (and hopefully all of you) shall never forget. And as you can see from the swipe, I’ve lately been dipping into some of my Scottish heritage, and inadvertently getting my base line research underway!”
No other actors other than Cavill are confirmed yet. Screenwriter Kerry Williamson is set to pen the script. So far, the production update and release information are also under wraps.
